i love this game more than i can ever put into words; the amount of value you get here for the asking price is truly incredible. on the off chance that i can form my feelings for this game into actual sentences I'll come back and update the review. until then, just know that if you're a fan of left 4 dead style horde games/crazy minmaxing/meaty, visceral melee combat you can almost feel through your monitor, you're gonna have a great time.

I understand that Valve ported the entirety of this game into the sequel, but I feel that if you want to play the original how it was meant to be played, you should buy this masterpiece as well. The original is zombie survival horror in its purest form. You've got guns, three other players, and the occasional healing item; it's up to you and your friends to figure out how to make it work.

That being said, it does lack some of the features found in its sequel. Melee weapons are nowhere to be found, your weapon selection is a bit slimmer, and you will encounter only three types of special infected. However, there are smaller details present in the original that can't be found in the second. Survivors collapse and are affected by physics upon death, and any playable character has legs. The lighting is nicer than in the second game, and there are subtle changes in character animation that aren't featured in the second game. All of these things do wonders for creating a more authentic and absorbing experience.

If you've played the second game and aren't willing to sacrifice more content for immersion, I can't say that I can recommend buying this game. But for those of you that can look past it and see this game for what it really is, this is a game that you'll genuinely enjoy.

After 300+ hours, there is one thing that I can say for sure: Left for Dead is an a timeless classic and a one of a kind experience that you'll find yourself coming back to again and again.

This game is as addictive as crack cocaine.

At first glance it may seem like a monotony of paperwork and stamps, but it's not until you delve a little futher into the game that it really shows its true colors. The next person coming up to your booth could have a number of flaws, either in his passport, or in himself. Does he have a weapon? Does his name match up with the one on his entry permit? Is his gender indicated correctly on his document? Sometimes you can get all of these things right and let them through no problem, but that's no guarentee that they'll go on to be a model citizen in glorious Arstotska.
