This is one of the games you will come and play every now and than and discover that with passing time it became even better than it was. Not only thanks to Klei Entertainment, which decided to keep updating it and realese the important content even after nearly three years after it’s initial release.

1. Graphics

Highly stylistic isometric look gives the game a particular feel. The visualisation of the world makes you believe it will be hard to survive in dark, unknown and unforgiving fantasy world you’ve been suddenly thrown into. It is one of those games that will always be nice to look at and even after years the graphics will be worth noting.

2. Music and Sound Effects

What is a good survival game without a creepy and eery music? It suits the game perfectly, spending that first winter night at your camp without realising you didn’t make any necessary preparations with all the sounds coming from your headphones will surely make a chill run down your spine. The Audio aspect of the game is well done and makes a spectacular part of the world. Characters are voiced by different instruments, which blend well with the feeling of unknown.

3. The World

Hardly anything is told in the game itself about the history and world itself. But Klei developed it outside of the game for those, who are eager enought to look and acknowledge with the lore. I highly suggest everyone to take a look at it and Klei’s website.

4.. Gameplay

Many people know the typical gameplay of survival games. Big boom of those lately comes with a price, many of them use the same formulas. Don’t Starve doesn’t differ much here, the basic scavenging game with fighting the unknown danger. But this time the danger is really unknown as you can’t expect what you will find, or what will find you. It’s not an another zombie survival, but something unique.

5. Replayability

The game itself may lack a bit here, as at least first couple of days almost always look the same. Find a good spot, gather enough resorces, build a base, prepare for winter. It takes around an hour, maybe more to just settle anything. It may not sound as much, but when you need to do it every time after you die, it may become a little drag. Thankfully here comes modding community. Even after one gets bored playing, there are hundred of mods here on steam to download, ranging from new characters with distinct ways to play to even new biomes. I highly suggest to look at the workshop and get a grip at what you may like.

Final Score: 9/10, highly suggested playing. The game itself could use a bit more things to do at the end game, but with each DLC it gets better and better.
