Pretty good adaptation! A few minor glitches but none game-breaking. Very very well made and thorough in general.

SPOILER FREE!

There's a lot of good stuff in Spiritfarer, but the way it all ties together doesn't make up for a satisfying experience.

I've finished most of the game and am not sure if I have the energy to go to the end credits, it's probably 70% grinding, with unskippable animations you have to go through a LOT!

What initially attracted me to buying it was the exploration of death, but the way that the game is structured makes it really hard to get invested in any of the stories. My best experience engaging with the stories was through highlight clips on YouTube before I even played any of the game. The problem is that in between those really cool story moments, there are hours of oddly-designed and grindy content. Not poorly designed... just not cohesive.

The art is gorgeous and the soundtrack is pretty awesome. For me personally, *some* of the storylines felt heavy-handed and a bit over-written, in the sense that the author's "message" came through the text suuuper clearly. The game starts you off with this ambiguous tone but then winds up infodumping a TON of explanation at the end, which I personally didn't think was necessary for the story.

BUT when the game has good moments, they are great. Specifically one involving dementia I felt to be the highlight of the game. If you think you might enjoy the animation enough that the slow pace wouldn't feel like a grind to you, definitely give it a shot! But if you're drawn in for the story, I'll have to say your best bet is to just watch youtube clips.

Controls are quite poor. Art is kind of cool but the slowness of the game just makes it frustrating to get through. Not worth the slog.
