I recommend this, with ONE BIG ASTERISK. If you can get a controller working, via steam controller support or whatever, then it's great, way better than pirate warriors 4. If not, refund it. This is a bad pc port of a great game.

Game is great, shame I can't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ play it. Months longer to port to PC and it comes out broken and unplayable. Crashes if tried to run in dx12, freezes every minute or so due to CPU usage spikes anyway.

This game has under 5 hours of content in a single playthrough, and most of that content is itself very bland, consisting of fighting waves of approximately 3 varieties of enemies, interspersed with 6 boss fights. Why do I recommend, then?

Because, if you can get it on the cheap, then those boss fights provide challenging engagements that compose the majority of the engagement the game has. While they do each share similarities, they are each distinct enough such that you're going to be learning moves and how to counter them before finally overcoming the challenge. If that's what you're looking for, then you could do much worse than this game, but also a lot better.

The sections in between are fights with extremely generic enemies on a big circle with changing backgrounds. Think the bloody palace from Devil May Cry, but without the timer and enemy variety. The bosses themselves are intimidating with their movesets, until you learn the timing for the just guard into counter attack, which provides a ludicrous amount of invincibility and can be used to stop any and all sources of damage while dealing out a huge chunk yourself. But, luckily, this probably isn't going to be a problem on your first playthrough, as it's short enough that most aren't going to be able to get the timing down pat compared to easier methods of avoiding damage, such as positioning.

In summary, the game is sparse but has enough content to entertain for a short while, primarily through it's boss fights. Good for one playthrough, any more just devolves into perfect guarding the bosses every attack and countering for massive damage. I'd recommend for less than £5.

Alright, now that patch 1.3 is out, I played for several hours without encountering bugs anywhere as severe as the stuff I experienced on first launch. While the pop-in is still rather bad and noticeable, it's to an acceptable level, and I'm able to become immersed and enjoy myself far easier now that I get almost no freezes. If you're interested in the game, now would be a far better time to pick it up than launch, as the dreadful bugs and performance problems I encountered are no longer there.

As of right now, I cannot recommend this game. Every single positive I can say about the game needs a huge, pulsing asterix to tell you that this only applies WHEN THE GAME WORKS. The graphics look very pretty, until you run into a headless peasent in front of a house that looks like it was textured in 1980. The gameplay is high stakes and smooth, until your framerate tanks, your opponent walks through a wall, and the game freezes for upwards of 10 seconds. The conversations and cutscenes are well acted and convincing, until the audio lines fail to play, loop, play over the next one, or any other myriad of issues you could have with it. A particular example was a dramatic and touching scene after the return to Skalitz that just so happened to loop a second of audio from a minute prior, ruining the tone. The music is excellent, until it decides to get caught in a second long loop while you're still wandering around. With the regular sfx playing over! I had multiple extended freezes for over 30 seconds, all within the hour I decided to record, just to see how many glitches there were.

I cannot recommend the game in it's current state. As much as the game is good, any enjoyment of it is ruined every 5 minutes, when you run into a minor or major bug. If you're on the fence, I'd highly recommend you wait a month or two, until the largest bugs have been ironed out. I'll update this review after my experience improves, as I would certainly recommend it if these bugs were fixed.
