It was a bit of a rollercoaster. It was a pleasant experience at the beginning when I still knew little about what awaited me, and towards the end when I had unlocked new abilities from the shrines of memories and acquired some additional trinkets and items. The mid-game was dreadful, mainly due to the slow progression in unlocking new things, but also due to a sense of imbalance, with some mobs being overly efficient and some bosses requiring simple brute force or always someone who can hit the 4th position (a rather rare ability).
I didn't appreciate the decision to release a DLC with two additional characters, especially after two years since the game's initial release. At the moment, I feel the game lacks a bit more variety in terms of enemies and locations. It also lacks the inspiration of the first installment, where certain enemies ingeniously complimented the combat system (such as the mosquitoes in DD1).
There's no comparison in terms of atmosphere; the first one is fundamentally a different game, and comparing them on this aspect would be wrong. DD2 is a much more arcade, immediate, and clear game, from the "choose between these two paths and you'll get what you expect" to the token system, which I personally liked a lot. It brings much clarity to how turns unfold and, at the same time, removes a layer of RNG that is already heavily present. Some heroes can play around the enemies' positive tokens or your negatives.
I personally think that the long time taken to finish, or fail, a single run isn't necessarily a bad point; it gives a slight sense of importance to it and the survival of your party, making you pay more attention and such. I think it's perceived badly because it goes hand in hand with the slow progression of the Altar of Hope, so finishing a 4-hour run to just unlock a few useless points in a character's progress or 5 stagecoach items is a little boring, but that's mainly a problem at the beginning, or first 15 hours.
The price is really high, honestly. It's all well and good, but a roguelike at 40€ is hard to swallow, especially because once you understand the meta, the game concludes quickly, and workshop support is still missing.

This game is unplayable. It stutters incessantly, fluctuating from 60 to 14 constantly. Even the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ menus stutter. And this is happening on a 4070 Desktop. I've attempted to tweak settings, waited through various patches, but nothing remedies this mess.
I've given this game more than the benefit of the doubt, and I can confidently say that it runs like absolute trash. I can't even assess if the core game is good or not because it's THAT unplayable.

The game is visually stunning, but I can't comprehend the necessity for constant online, especially during the campaign. The first time, I had lag on their servers, which made the game unplayable with my character constantly warping back in time and eventually getting timed out. What's the point of being online when there are hardly any other players around? The game barely have social aspects.
The second attempt went smoother with no lag, but I encountered a different issue. The gameplay felt excessively monotonous. I can understand the early game being easy (even at hard difficulty?), but it seemed like I could close my eyes and still win, which I would've want to since I was falling asleep. Even D3 wasn't so easy lmao.
Despite these 'challenges', I'm still drawn to the game because of its captivating art and lore. However, paying more than $20-$30 feels excessive for the overall experience. Just wait next year for the expansion release, maybe.

Early Access Review

This is probably the death of the franchise, it's even worse than what SFV was to Street fighter honestly.
This may sound like a joke, but there's nothing in this game. Not even in the premium shop. The game is structured to be a f2p mobile game and even then it's so barebones you can hardly believe it.
There's nothing to gain, nothing to grind, nothing to buy, so what there is? A movie and versus.
Online is such a joke it's hard to consider it. The constant presence of a loading wheel and the lack of risk in losing rank removes any semblance of importance from the competitive aspect. The dwindling PC player base further compounds this issue, rendering the online experience practically irrelevant.
The soundtracks, stages and color tone are the things that deserve merit, but these elements alone fail to salvage a game that feels fundamentally incomplete.. MK9, X and 11 each blows completely out of the water this one at release.
If you are still contemplating playing this game, be aware that they don't even bother adding new items to their premium shop. It's the same three outfits being recycled, so one can only imagine the quality of the rest of the content: pathetic and weak.

Honestly, though, you have played the game for a long time. Don't you have anything else to do with your time?

Surprisingly, it runs well on my system.
Playing at capped 60 fps and no stutters with Standard settings except textures on High, on 1440p res. Here is my Desktop:
AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super 8GB
DDR4 16GBx1 1500 MHz
Crucial P5 NVMe M.2 SSD CT1000P5SSD8

Also, I tried capping fps at 120 and it runs between 100-112 fps but there were some drops to 88 fps or lower, which made me prefer the cap at 60.

Now, talking about the game itself, it really gives off the feeling of playing a Sekiro spin-off. I will not waste your time writing about countless praises about the combat system, but it really is that good and fun, definitely overshadowing everything else that the game has to offer. The game is not heavily centered around parrying like in Sekiro and gives players many tools to keep things fresh (a progression system, spell casting with rock-paper-scissor++, weapons with different movesets, passive effects).

But where’s the catch? Well, it’s KT after all, so obviously the game suffers from its undigestable loot system, uninspired work on story and character design and the annoying game balance.

I still have to finish the game, so I will just speak of what I found, so until Part 4.
Here are some key points:

I agree with many that the jump in difficulty is weird, you can basically run over a level without dying and then having a real struggle with the boss fight, but only due to the insane amount of hp they have.

There are some flipped assets from their other games, like the recent Wild Hearts, but it will not be a problem and it was actually fun to challenge those enemies in a different game with different mechanics. They also have some new moves and details.

There is AI coop (useless), online coop and invasions. Enough to say that it will be interesting.

The lore text boxes need to stop auto scrolling fast and, most importantly, the players should have an option to scroll themselves!!! (I can’t believe I need to write this, literally interns made this game)

My final complaint may be unshared by many, but I really need to. Why caster bosses? Like, after all this work on making this beautiful combat system, you make me fight cheap ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wizards spamming spells and teleports? I can’t believe you didn’t have better ideas for these fights. I just can’t. All I want to do while playing against casters in a game like this is to put my balls in an hydraulic press and make it go until they ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ explode just to pour acid on the open wound. Please fire the interns responsible for this.

But yeah, I still recommend the game. It's really fun and challenging but doable for everyone. Even my major complaints were washed off while playing due to the fun I was having. The game keeps getting better.
I will update this review once I’ve finished the game.

The remake is perfectly on point. They didn't miss on anything and delivered a masterpiece not only up to modern standards but even set the bar higher for future horror games.

The true highlight is the audio compartment. Each new audio cue, ost and sfx brings so much life into the game and enhances the creepiness and horror of every scene. Truly a spotless job.

Together with the sound, also the ray-traced lighting makes the game so much more sinister and realistic, you can really feel the horror of a necromorph lurking in the shadows. Seeing something scuttling in the dim light is much more terrifying now.

It's also much more fun to play, both for veterans and new players. There are tweaks and upgrades to the original weapons and new enemy spawns; totally new ways to complete the game, since now every area is interconnected to another one or more; new fitting side missions exploring more lore or giving a great unique reward; new enemy placements and things to do in NG+ with a secret ending.

As you can see, the attention to detail is incredible, and I didn't even talk about silly things like the various suit details, the layered gore system or additional dialogues and logs, lights placement, new tentacle animations, voice acting...it's simply so much more than its original.

It's one of the best horror games ever made and will easily please cosmic and body horror fans alike. A must play for sure.
