Tl:Dr A game which tries to offer something to everyone, and fails. Not only that but it suffers from optimization issues which is weird considering this is a pixel game. The gameplay itself gets repetitive real quick. I can only recommend it for people looking for a sandbox game. Otherwise there's nothing to see here. More details further down below.

Making this review saddens me, since there's so much potential for this game. A lot of work was put into details, for example the playable races are interesting with their own backgrounds and histories, the graphics and sprites are beautiful, the soundtrack is extremely fitting and relaxing for a sandbox adventure game, and i just love the idea of exploring different planets and building settlements. However this game has a lot of issues, which is why at the end of the day i am not able to recommend buying this game.

To start things off, i am more of an adventure game fan and as such i'll talk about the quests, combat and exploring aspect. This game has quests, including a short main quest adventure. The main quest itself had some potential when it started, i was extremely interested and invented in the main story line early on. You are send on a moon to find out what happened to some lunar facility, and it had a shroud of mystery and dread surrounding it. However upon beating that mission it turns out that this mission had literally nothing to do with the main story. After this really cool moon mission the mood drops as you are given a quest to go on a goose chase to find settlements of different races and scan their furniture. This part of this quest gets a lot of crap for good reason. Once you've scanned those items and cleared a few more dungeons, you are off to beat the big bad evil guy. Doing the main quest line can take a while to beat but for the wrong reasons, its because you have to do that very repetitive planet scrounging to find the required things to advance the questline. Its repetitive and boring.

Speaking of repetitive and boring, NPCs can give you simplistic fetch or kill quests. Doing these boring quests are required if you want to build your ship, since when turning these missions in there's a chance that these NPCs will want to join your crew.

And how's the gameplay when the main quest is done, or if you want to ignore it? Combat can be quite interesting, since there's so many types of weapons to use. You can use melee weapons, shields, staves and staffs, bows and guns so there's a lot of variety. Exploring different planets can be fun for a while, but after you've seen enough of the prebuilt biomes,
the game starts to get dull. The planets have a difficulty rating on them, meaning that once you got the late game gear, there's pretty much no reason to go to easier planets anymore unless if you are looking to sandbox.

I already mentioned a bit about performance. This game appears to get laggy when there's multiple NPCs or huge animated objects in the screen, but it's not only tied to NPCs. When you are in big NPC cities, you can expect your fps to drop from 60 to 40 to 50. I also encountered random fps drops here and there.

Let's talk about mods. This game has a workshop and as such its possible to fix some of this game's flaws with mods. There's a mod called Frackin Universe which fleshes out the lacking and unfinished aspects by adding more quests and more things to explore. However this mod is the complete opposite of vanilla Starbound. Normal Starbound is bleak and empty experience. Frackin on the other hand offers way too much stuff for you to learn. There's multiple crafting stations which you must learn to use in order to play the game. It also adds a new research tree mechanic, which means that you are forced to research materials and crafting techniques before you can craft anything. You can't even craft any early crafting stations without having the required research. Its also worth to note that this mod also changes to vibe of the game to be different, it adds some really weird grizzly items and there's a very infamous late game quest line with pixel gore. So your choises are either you play the game the og way which doesn't offer much in the long run, or use this mod which adds way too much stuff.

Been 11 years since i started playing this game. It still has a really active player base despite it being like 14 years old. However it hurts me how this game is getting neglected by the devs. There's aimbotting bots everywhere, and this game hasnt gotten a major update since 2017.

As Sauron's black tower fell to ashes, Aragorn said "somebody needs to make a pay to win video game about this story", thus LOTRO was created.

Basic tunnel shooter what i'd like to call neutral, it offers a story and guns, no more nor less.
HL1 was better.

+Graphics are beautiful piece of art.
+Great story with lots of touching moments.
+Combat is lots of fun.
+Unlockables and easter eggs.
+Extremely good controls.
+Humour.
+Fidget.
++INCREDIBLY awesome soundtrack which fits extremely well to appealing graphics.

I had hard time finding bad things about this game, i guess the only bad thing about this diamond is easy-ish game, i only died 2 times during the whole game, and those 2 times were on the final boss.

TLDR; Incredible game made by only one guy which is something you wont see everyday.
I will give it 9/10.

If you are a sidescroller fan like me, buy this, i guarantee that your not going to regret it.

This game is old as arse, and it has not aged well. If you buy or download it, you will most likely get graphical errors, only thing which fixes this is unofficial patch. Otherwise, this game is an RPG with really strange combat system which can be described well with this line "you just spam the weakest attack and hope it hits the target and hope opponent's attacks miss", this sadly kills it for me. Otherwise, this game has really cool references, and perk icons and cutscenes are really fun to watch. If your about to buy a fallout game, id suggest you to try newer games, because the gameplay is so different compared to other RPGs ive played.
