One of the most eerily beautiful games I've played. Gameplay is much more fitting for the cramped "Dungeon" segments, and the open world sections end up feeling a little underwhelming, but the sheer prettiness of it makes me just take moments here and there to just look at it. If buying this helps them make another one, then I'm all for it, this series so far has been quite solid.

I have roughly 100 hours in the Bethesda Launcher version of this game, so keep in mind that I really only have steam playtime to leave this review.

Quake Champions, Is an...interesting choice for the devs to make. Arena shooters have always been a hypercompetitive merit based experience, this was "Git Gud" long before IGN was calling things "The dark souls of ___." So their choice to include heroes in the game, took some time to grow on me, especially before the recent waves of balance patches that largely brought the game into balance and returned me to that feeling of sheer despair when you lose a fight, because you realize that you just got outplayed, there was no OP gun, no BS ability, just pure skill that took you out, and that feeling stings.

This is an arena shooter, and in the current era of gaming that means that this will likely never have any mainstream appeal (although I said the same thing about Tarkov, so hopefully I'm wrong here too) and that lack of mainstream appeal means players are few and far between. However, you shouldn't have trouble finding matches in my experience, also, the playercount seems to be rising currently so now's a good time to hop in.

I won't lie to you, this game does a really poor job of explaining the MULTITUDE of important systems in place. It even goes so far as to force you to play a bot match before doing anything else, locking you into that selection. But if you're resilient enough to learn the game, there's something here that simply can't be found in any other games right now.

If you DO decide to play, please, please, please, for the love of god, learn the movement system first. Yes, aim and map knowledge are vital, absolutely, but If you try and play this like it's COD and just sprint around, you will get absolutely meme'd on in record time. Learn to move, then learn the maps, then learn the aim.

Give it a shot, and please leave the hacker claims at the door, some of the players have been playing since before you or me were born, have some respect for those inhuman reactions. Hackers absolutely exist and all that calling every player that kills you a cheater does is make the real cheaters harder to find.

Something about the sheer speed of this game keeps me coming back for more, and I suspect that it might for you as well. It's free to play, and you start off with Ranger who's great to learn on, so you don't have much to lose for trying.

Good game with interesting mechanics, good visual style, fun and teamwork-rewarding gameplay, cool gun custimization. Limeted character roster, small weapon attachment pool, overall a fun game with good potential and great setting. 8.5/10
