If it just won best game at Lisbon Games Week's Indie X festival, it sure can win your heart.

I will start by saying that I'm not a fan of racing games, as you can see in my library, I literally play everything besides car games, so when I was kindly offered Dakar 18 I warned that my review was going to be as real as I could manage.

At first I got kind of lost everywhere, my fault for choosing the "normal difficulty" instead of the rookie one.

After I changed, it got way simpler, the driving was good, and it didn't get in the way of me trying to find pace following the roadbook's and copilot's instructions, some tracks later I was finally able to change back to the normal difficulty mode.

Then I played it with some friends, and oh how it changed, it climbed from "relaxed fun" to a great "driving with friends" experience, we can help each other along the way, and we managed to get on track everytime on the HUGE MAPS, I swear, some tracks never end.

Another good point that I noticed is that bigmoon is constantly updating the game and fixing bugs / adding content, so this should keep dakar an even safer bet in the long term.

Final thoughts, I ended up enjoying the game because of the focus on orientation and directions, even though I'm not a big fan of racing games, so that should say a lot about it :)

Funny concept, works better as a mobile freemium game rather than a steam game.
The tutorial just covers the basics of movement and spells, that seem rather wonky because they emulate cellphone gestures.

Some paywalls here and there, but for a mobile game its kinda fun.

This game has the most amazing world and backstory ever, doesn't feel cliché and is really well thought.

Sometimes i found myself reading random entries in the journal, the small factbook that you discover along the way , so that really says something.

Also the story develops a lot around your choices and decisions , so be carefull about the path you'll be taking,

If you liked the classic pang you're going to love this, comes a bit short on level diversity (i got through the whole arcade normal dificulty in 2 hours) but the hard dificulty is really hard.

Overall awesome to play alone or with a friend.

Beautifully told story in an interesting game.

There's a "documentary" going the whole game on the backscenes. Shows that the developers care.

IT IS HARD. IT IS UNFORGIVING. IT IS PAINFULLY ENRAGING. IT IS AWESOME.

This game, on par with Talos Principle gets my award for the two games that surprised me the most in the last 3 years, it's beautifull, easy to get into, challenging, relaxing and the game mechanics and history are on point.

Play with and Xbox controller for a better experience.

One of the most amazing indie games you can play, i strongly advise you to play all the way with headphones cause the soundtrack and audio narration are the best part of the game in my opinion.

Totally worth it.
