Andrew Hussie once again knocks it out of the park with a bizarre narrative that you would never believe you could get so invested in. It's crazy how damn real this story about clown-based revolution gets all the time.

Entrancing puzzle game that nails riding that fine line between simplicity and challenge, taking advantage of the former to explain all puzzles in the entire game without any text or narration. If there's any complaint to be had it's that a few of the environment puzzles are a touch confusing or finnicky to line up, and that the sound puzzles, while interesting in concept, make way too heavy use of obscuring the sounds you're supposed to listen to by drowning them out with various noise rather than making the puzzles themselves more interesting and challenging.

I don't normally leave reviews, but given the game's current score sitting at a ridiculous 63% I felt compelled to do this.

Let's be clear: Is this a good REMASTER? Not really, it did not do much more than the bare minimum an update of a game from 2011 to current technology needs, which is getting it to 60 fps and improving the resolution.

However, is this a good GAME? Yes, it absolutely is. In fact, compared to the original Dark Souls this version is clearly superior, even if not by that much. I get disappointment over the lack of improvements - graphical ones that is, not mechanical ones, since those were never in the cards anyway and should not have been - and it certainly is reasonable to rate this remaster lower than the original simply because an original game from 2011 and a remaster from 2018 after the franchise became a smash hit simply cannot be judged on the same merits.

But 63%? SIXTY-THREE PERCENT? For perhaps one of the best games of the decade? Just because people don't understand that changing backstabs would require the entire core mechanics of the game to be overhauled, or because the trees haven't had every piece of bark rendered as an individual 3D model? That's beyond ridiculous.

So, what would my honest score be? Given that the Prepare to Die edition at time of writing has a score of about 90% I'd give this remaster a score of 80% at worst. And remember also that the Prepare to Die edition has that score EVEN THOUGH the PC port had far more problems than this remaster, most notably in the terrible framerate issues. Because it's still Dark Souls, because the remaster has not broken anything that made the original great and because even though some of the graphical updates might be below expectations it still added several great new features, such as dedicated matchmaking servers to make the online features silky smooth and the upgrade to allowing 6 players instead of 4 in one world, which is tons of fun.

Finally, there's the question you are probably reading this review for. Should I buy this game? If you have not played the original Dark Souls before, absolutely. It's a fantastic game and even if you are considering pirating the original this remaster will give you far better online, far more people online to begin with and it will save you the hassle of having to install at least two mods to get the framerate playable and the dying online working again.

As a returning player though, which I imagine a lot of the people voting negatively are? Well, the game is about the same as the original, but given that it is a remaster it was always going to be little more than a nicer looking version of the original. So, if you aren't willing to pay 20 bucks for that you won't want to pay it for this remaster, but then again you wouldn't have paid that anyway even if it was up to snuff graphically. However, if you like to experience the online or if you want to experience this game at glorious 60 fps 1080p without the many glitches that dsfix tends to bring with it? Then 20 dollarydoos is definitely worth it.

The best thing about this game is the quotes from big name reviews it picked to display in the description. Actually it isn't and I'm just submitting this review to get the 2016 game awards badge but it's still pretty funny.

Also seriously the game is good go play it ya dingus
