I was afraid to pick it up after moving away from D&D as my TTRPG of choice. But they really adapted it to work well in there game. And Larian makes amazing games

I played this game a ton back in the day. I still think the gameplay holds up. Nobody since has really managed to capture the same vibe, which is a shame, since I would love to play an updated version with graphical and UI improvements. On that note, it may be hard to get into if you are accustomed to modern 4X controls.

Boring combat that doesn't feel good. Melee combat/targeting is just bad. Ranged characters have to constantly kite, and its easy to get into a ridiculous situation where an enemy is spawning mobs and you can't kill them because they are surrounded by summons, and you have limited AoE.
All the permanent upgrades are boring + to stats, nothing exciting to look forward to. I probably haven't seen many of them, but the powerups you find also feel super boring, and the levels are so short, at least in the early game, that you don't find many of them. And you just have to hope that when you do get one, its not yet another consumable or activated item you can't hold another of.
Bottom line, for me, the story might be great, but I can't stand the mechanics enough to experience it.

Very creative point and click adventure game. Very few instances of having no idea how to proceed, which I feel like is a common problem with these kinds of games with their obscure solutions

I initially liked it, but it got boring real fast. I think it has promise, but the execution seems a bit flawed. I'll stick to the cons since it has such a positive rating.
1) Graphics. I don't mind the pixel art style, but late run, it can be hard to differentiate tiles and find your character on the board.
2) Boring. After the initial glut of upgrades, it seems like things slow down a lot. Then you are just repeating runs with the same optimized set of cards over and over. Once you start a run, There's not a lot to do. You place tiles and watch your guy run in a loop fighting.
3) Gear. The gear is not interesting. You can stack certain traits and go for a "build" but that just means you likely will not be upgrading much. And in general, I found myself using the same gear and getting frustrated that I was getting stuff levels above what I was using but not with stats I was looking for. I feel like there needs to be some tweaking there.
4) Classes. They are all pretty boring. I found my self using the fighter just because it's easier to get usable gear for him, it doesn't rely so much on stacking a particular stat. The necromancer in particular means slow fights and usually struggles to find gear that won't gimp your build.
