A decade later and..... while the game is at a playable frame rate, and much has clearly gone into the game since the miserable alpha. the game is rife with odd design decisions, glitches, and jank. be prepared to randomly launch around a room when you run past a chair, table, or rock on the road. Classic ladder deaths seem uncommon but I still unluckily had one. you need to give a weirdly wide berth when moving around the terrain, as you can easily have your server side position get "snagged" on a small ledge, door, or stair. even on official servers I noticed significant rubber banding anytime I ran in or around buildings. this will cost you several lives when you think you made it inside, but snap back and forth between inside and outside, unable to fight back. I also spent the entire weekend retry of this game sick across multiple lives, it is beyond stupidly easy to die within 20 minutes of spawn from a random cough, vomit, or for seemingly no reason. any time you do get progress, it's more likely you'll drop dead from a spoiled can of food than a human.
I feel like for the right person with lots of time, and masochistic tendencies this game can be a realistic yet sloppy gem. 6/10.

It's a wonderful game, easy to jump into a game or two to kill time, easy to grind out hours of games. looks good, runs great, minimal issues, feature complete, and while it has microtransactions, that's only to skip the level requirements of buying cooling looking armor. I only wish they would make the dev tools available so we could see the endless custom maps that chivalry 1 had, and prolonged it's life span.

This game is a beautiful oldie, that wows me with it's deep rich world, interactive environments, and limitless amounts of people with problems only you can fix. It shows how well thought out it is compared to other RPG games out there, for example in the starter town, you come across a lizardfolk healer, skittering about his shop, worried. you are quickly prompted with about 5 different options to first approach him, each with a unique branching dialouge. In his backyard he has a sentient fountain that is upset it can only heal one of the 2 sick soldiers in town. After exploring an anbondoned house at the edge of town, I found a magic mirror, and a manual hidden under a box beside it. I placed the mirror in a small pond, and tossed the fountain's healing gem inside the pool. The Gem was cloned, and the mirror gone, I used the items to save the soldiers instead of to ensure my own survival as a solo squishy mage. During this whole experience thus far, never once was I corralled into "the right choice" or the "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ evil choice" that games these days leave you to experience. I wasn't given a maker on where an item I needed was, my choices didn't have clear consequences, and I didn't automatically absorb knowledge from a book simply by tossing it into my bag.
