This game is really enjoyable but getting softlocked at every turn or even a full hardlock sometimes is really making it hard for me to recommend anyone get this game at this point, unless your fine with losing many hours.

Early Access Review
This is the first time I have written a review so im going to just start out by talking about the game then I will get into a more pro/con format later in.

I played castle story back when it was just out of the prototype stage and there were many problems. two of the biggest problems were the path finding of the units and the camera's controls, everything else was injoyable. I have taken over 2 year break from this game. After the break I have come back to islands (maps) that are 10x as big as the "first island", two new game modes conquest (capture the point) and invasion (wave survival), a normal camera control system and enemys that you have to defend against. To add on to all that devs are getting ready to launch a multiplayer update where we can share control with friends or battle against one another (but as thats not in yet I will keep that out of my mind for the rest of the review). The game mode conquest is not very injoyable to me but the invasion mode is very challenging but fun so I'm going to focus on invasion. In invasion you start out with a few workers, a knight, an archer and your crystal (homebase) so you stright away get to work setting jobs and delgating how many workers you want doing diffrent jobs such as chopping trees for wood, working the iron mines, working in your querry for stone to make bricks or building your stronghold. Now building is a little unique you have to build your structures one brick at a time (you can click and drag so its not tedious) which means you can end up with a stronghold that can take multiple hits of explosive barrels or one. You can make you stronghold tall or wide its up to you but you do have to make sure you put supports under your structures so that your building doesn't collapse on its self. So I would say that castle story is a game that has seen a lot of growth and is at a stat were its fun to play.

Some pros and cons:

    Pros:
  • very good looking
  • easy to build structures
  • challenging to balance jobs
  • varying sizes of maps
  • terrain deformation/reformation
  • you can build any size or shape structure
  • stress system
  • camera is not unusable like early releases
  • devs are always releasing updates

    Cons:
  • takes large amounts of time to complete structres
  • big map has some framerate issues
  • not all game modes on every map
  • bugs where enemys dont charge your base
  • when builting unless you have two wide paths there may be some pathing issues
  • minor lighting bugs

If you have the money to spare I think castle story is a game you should pick up.
