Great game, love it, can't wait for the additional war bonds, stratagem, enemies, missions, etc... Great fun!

Is this is deep game? No. Is it complex? No. I have been stymied a few times on hard mode, but overall I play this game to relax. Turning the desolate hellscape into a green eden, accompanied by the relaxing music and SFX is simply an enjoyable, casual experience.

You begin with a small amount of resources and buildings to restore a randomly generated level. Restoring nature earns you more resources so you can build more buildings until you need to demolish them all to leave pristine nature behind.

I play this at the end of the day to relax before bed and help me sleep.

I don't usually write reviews, so something had to be quite good or quite bad for me to take this step. Kingmaker is unfortunately the latter.

Pros:
* Very close to the source material—if you know Pathfinder 1e, you will feel right at home.
* Relatively large variety of options for your primary player character.
* Relatively straight forward controls.
* Stable during run-time.
* Short load times.

Cons:
* Small and repetitive musical score.
* Fraught with erratic rag-dolling and wall/floor clipping.
* Fails to shut down properly every time.
* Steep learning curve for UI and zero tutorial. (Had to google how to leave the first outpost, learn recipes, change prepared spells, and many more.)
* Repetitive game play.

Subjective Cons:
* Terrible pacing/narrative tempo.
* Severe balancing issues. (I'm a beardy, min-maxing role-playing veteran with decades of experience and I had to turn the difficulty down.)
* Horrible narrative clues. Had to look up what to do multiple times.

I'm not an OG role-player from the seventies, but I'm a life-long player and GM and this is just BAD. Yes, there are a lot of bad habits modern RPGs and MMOs have gotten the community into that this game counters, but that's no excuse for an NPC or quest to say, "go here" and have it be many CRs above your APL. That's just poor game design. And the shimmering black portal that is actually an Orb of the Void is an old trope, but they're not used anymore. This game is absolutely unforgiving to the point of it not being fun.

Everyone has that one project they love, even though it may not win any awards. It's been a long time coming, but this is a faithful remake of the nostalgic classic from 2004. Same plot, same tongue-in-cheek humor, but with updated graphics and added mechanics. Is this going to win any awards? Probably not. Is going to be a fun-filled rampage of mischief dressed up as a base builder. Yes.

Pros before cons: this is an exceptional game. The graphics are gritty and thematic, the game play is unique and enjoyable, and the world interaction is phenomenal (I love watching humans freak out when I maul a compatriot of theirs). That being said, it is a bit shy on content for $20. A game like this I'd expect in the $10 range.

All in all, I'm happy to give this an up-thumb with a plea to the developers: please, add workshop support and community level creation. It will make the price tag much more reasonable and extend the lifetime of the game. Please please please, workshop support and level creator!

Technically speaking, this is a great game. Graphics, UI, music, voice acting, all very well done. Barring some UI crowding on my square screen, the game is virtually flawless. The challenge is, this isn't much of a game at all.

Immigrants perpetually flow into your colony, happiness is easy to manage, power, food, water, and building materials are in near endless supply. This felt more like a city-designing sandbox game with unlimited resources than it did a strategic decision making city planning simulation. Ultimate, it got real boring real quick.

Sure, this game could use a little more polish. Yes, I'd love a peaceful more or a less unrelenting galaxy. But as far as games go, this is still pretty good!

The graphics and gameplay are good, the voice acting is fun, I enjoy the art style, and I didn't encounter any bugs. But I'm sorry, the world doesn't need another Hearthstone.

There is simply nothing that makes this game pop, nothing unique. Just another DCCG that is coming to the market too late. Go ahead and play it, it's a good game, just not special.

This game has a lot of potential, but isn't quite there yet. The tutorial is buggy and resets before you're finished, and was written by someone without a solid grasp on the english language. The mouse click isn't where it is poiting, and though you can afford it doesn't always place when you click. There need to be significant balancing going on, had one game where my villagers got a plague and all died because the library to research a shaman is ungodly expensive.

It's not expensive, and if you have the patience this could be a cheap fun god-sim in the not-so-distant future.

The table minimums is rediculous. Throws off all your calculations. 100 minimums on craps makes placing 6/8 place bets impossible.
