With the release of XEN, Black Mesa is finally complete. I played this for the first time when this was a mod for Half-Life 2. The devs did an excellent job back then but I wondered why XEN was missing, you could say the ending felt very anti-climatic since the game was abruptly cut with a "Will Continue" message after you jumped into the portal.

Talking about the main sections of the game, this recreates faithfully the original Half-Life in almost every aspect. You will feel right at home if you played the original. There's new gameplay aspects like Iron Sights for the revolver and whatnot, but you probably already knew that.

Now on to XEN.
I see why they took so long to release XEN in Black Mesa. The original Half-Life Xen was the most weak part of the game, technically speaking, as it felt very rushed, short and incomplete compared to the rest of the game. In Black Mesa's iteration, however, they didn't just remastered the already existing segments, they added a lot of new gameplay mechanics, stages, new segments that pushed the use of the Space Jump Module for a more exciting combat experience and expanded much more to the already existing lore of Half-Life... all of this essentially for free, if you already bought the game.

I'm so glad this exists and I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone, already existing and new Half-Life fans alike, to purchase this masterpiece. It has been a hell of a ride saving the world while being late to work in Black Mesa.

Overall the best Souls Game ever released IMO, the PvP just came back to life again thanks to the removal of Games for Windows Live. Too bad the community is one of the saltiest out there, also, too many dishonorable, overpowered scrubs in early parts of the game. I would recommend you to play hollow or offline in Undead Burg/Parish to avoid these cheesy players.
Recommended Stuff to play the game:
- You should play this game with a controller; not that you need it that bad, you can play just fine with a keyboard and mouse (but the camera goes crazy when you try to lock on against two enemies at the time if you play without it, it can get you killed).
- Download DSfix, It IS a "Must Have" to enjoy 60 FPS and enjoy the game like it was meant to be.
- A LOT of patience and perseverance :) but when you finish it, it is one of the most satisfying experiences.
