yeah it's a fun little game, the song is nice, feels like what true indie games should feel like, something made just for the fun of it and to bring enjoyment to people.

EDIT: sony has walked back the PSN requirement, which is good, but that doesnt stop them from trying again later, there's still the EULA that should be changed (based off what im hearing from other players, admittedly) and gameguard is still in use, and has been known to cause issues with peoples PCs, both minor and major, and has security risks due to it being kernel level...if gameguard gets compramised, all of our PCs are compramised, since it gets fingers where they really dont have to be to do a good job, and it doesnt do a good job, and this being a coop game really doesnt benefit much from this kind of anticheat, unless you're worried about corporate profits with the microtransactions, that is.

ill be leaving the review negative for now until gameguard is swapped out for something else, preferrably something better. sorry devs, might not be your decision but this is one of the few ways i have to do anything to big corpos like sony.

original review below:

i hate to have to do this, but with sony trying to get their failed PSN numbers up to make shareholders happy, i cant thumb up this game till sony walks it back at least

PSN has had various data breaches in the past, and many countries dont allow PSN, thus now have a brick of a game, despite this not being a requirement when purchasing it...

also gameguard is still a security risk.

amazing game, nice devs, active in the discord and friendly.

gameplay is hectic, destruction and whatnot all over, fast paced, many fun plays to be had esp with medium's dematerializer.

only issues are possible cheaters or just matchmaking putting you against cracked teams, bummer when it happens, but i think itll be ironed out.

game didnt work at first, devs were very communicative and fixed the issue!

fair warning: as in any competetive type game like this there's certainly toxic people in game, if you cant handle people saying mean or stupid things at you for no reason then maybe avoid this one...

if, like me, you feed of the salt then welcome.

its an old but still very fun game if you find a good group to play with, like one of the various clans. join the discord, meet people, see who you like playing with, who fits your playstyle (tank busting? fighters? bombing? tanks? infantry fighting?)

they're updating to UE5 slowly and porting the new models back to the current version to give it a nice little facelift and updates as they move along with the big upgrade, its gonna be great.

you can play as tanks, planes, ships (not super useful most of the time sadly), self propelled guns, AA guns, AT guns, and a bit more. you also have tons of inf classes like bazooka, AT rifle, diff kinds of SMGs, rifles, grenade launcher rifle classes, etc. vehicles could be tanks, field guns, howitzer type guns, armored cars, and so on.

combine this with the new automatic Attack Order system so any group of 5 people can start an attack on a town and get things rolling, as well as high command moving supplies around to make sure you have gear for a big planned push, its all very engaging at times (When HC works together >.>)

they re-added their starter subscription, and i think they upped their free version a bit too, so you can get access to a good ammount of stuff while you level up your branches (land/sea/air levels up seperately) so it's one of the best times to get in, even if you have little/no money for subscriptions. they've been doing 'all access' events pretty often recently too.

with the content the game currently has, which while decent isn't ginormous or anything, i dont think its quite worth the current pricetag unless you're really itching for a game like this.

the melee combat is very fun, enemies and their attacks are all slightly 'limp physics' as opposed to the more 'rigid' style that B&S has for example...this makes hitting enemies feel a bit better in some ways as they get moved a bit more with swings, plus the game has an impaling system that even lets you pull the weapons out sideways by 'cutting through' them, though afaik it doesnt do more damage, just feels good to do. its certainly a different feel to the flow of combat compared ot B&S, where with that game attacks feel a bit stiff and a bit too 'canned' or over the top sometimes. here everything feels like it leans more into the physics side of it, and generally feels better imo.

personally some of the spell effects are lackluster, im talking how they look/feel...though most of what ive tried is some fire and the first lightning spell, it's basically a taser but you can shoot it, and i like my magic feeling powerful/looking good so that kinda dissapoints me, hopefully they can be improved sometime down the line to look a bit nicer (or maybe the first spells just look lackluster on purpose). the portal spell looks really nice though.

a new update looks like its on the horizon that should add a good # of things, incl more spells!

the way weapons handle feels good, 2 handers work nicely, feels good to try and parry and counter enemies, i find myself roleplaying a bit with it instead of trying to be efficient and get a ton of hits in when i parry or just punching enemies to death (punching is a little OP atm).

goblins are funny, they run away and often slam into walls comically.

either grab the game if you love VR physics based melee combat, or if you're on the fence, wait till it's on sale for 20something or less, i think. great game imo

there's far too many good things about this game for me to properly think of and list it all, but what's most important is the following:

(TL;DR: 'battlepass' is 100% free and everything you 'miss' is added to the loot drops in mission so you can always get them, no microtransactions at all besides a few cosmetic DLCs, very fun an constantly added to gameplay loop with new mechanics added frequently)

DRG is the only game i know of with an entirely free "battle pass" with no buy in, no premium track, etc. you just play and get ♥♥♥♥. AND there' no real FOMO, cuz all the goodies you "miss out" on just go into the loot pools for all the randomized loot from going on missions and such...

once you buy the game the only other 'microtransactions' are a few cosmetic DLCs...EVERYTHING else is free content...and boy has there been tons of new content! went from "a simple mining mission" of gathering morkite to adding things like new weapons (3 primary and 2ndary per class at this point). there's tons of new mission types from building pipelines for a liquid morkite pump (that you can grind on!), reactivating a lost drop pod and mini mules, escorting a giant drilldozer (doretta <3) to break open an ommoran heartstone, and even more! though, granted a good # of these could be boiled down to "explore the caves and find the things" but that's where the biomes come in...

the random generation in this game is some of the best ive seen! the ammount of times ive *actually stopped* and admired a view is more than 0, which i dont remember doing for any other game. you can check my screenshots for 2 recent examples. the biome diversity is rather large too, from the icy looking Glacial Strata to the "squirrel POV" Hollow Bough to one of my favorites, the lush, cave angel filled Azure Weald, among others.

every 'season' of the previously mentioned pass typically comes with an event. the first few revolved around a rival corperation sending in robots and such to try and scan hoxxes and get information, with the dwarves of DRG stopping them and collecting the data. now alot of that content is either found randomly in missions or for bigger objectives can be the main goal, such as industrial sabotage. currently its about a plague outbreak called "rockpox" that's infected alot of the glyphids in the game, and im sure this will become more randomized content afterwards, just piling on more things to add to the generator machine! and its all very unique, mechanics/gameplay wise.

it even has full mod support via mod.io, AND you get 3 types of mods: verified, approved, and sandbox.

sandbox requires a seperate sandbox save, it can have drastic changes to the game that severly alter progression.

approved are mods that change the game a little, but can be used in public matches and you still get progression. examples of what i use are 5x flashlight range, improved bosco (your single player flying bot companion), and reducing supply drops from 80 to 40 nitra...

verified mods are like 'client side' mods in other games, they only affect you and you can join any server and they'll stay enabled, this could be a mod that makes your MULE (minecart on legs) look different, for example.

Rock and Stone, to the bone!
