Early Access Review
I will admit I'm pretty biased here, because I grew up with the guy who made this game and we developed a love of run building WC3 custom maps together in his living room. That said, this is an amazing game if you love to tinker with builds and try new things then suddenly die because you didn't expect someone to resist the hundreds of psychic damage you deal when teleporting right next to them.

I'm editing this review months after the fact to update you on the fact that you can now be a very healthy goblin who kills all his enemies by bleeding on them, and I keep trying to win by doing it. I'll let you know when I get past the 5th floor.

Wizards and Warlords is a game filled to the brim with absolutely amazing ideas that fail to congeal into any particularly reasonable gameplay. The idea of having warring gods you can worship to confer boons on your civilization at the risk of angering their enemies, having multiple fantasy races with different preferences and skills to improve your economy, the multiple paths of spellcasting interacting with each other, all are really neat systems that I've enjoyed just poking at for hours each to see how they all work, and I've enjoyed that time. The issue is that as far as actually playing the game as anything approaching a regular 4x style means you have to spend a ton of time micromanaging followers, workers, multiple resource nodes, research and spell each turn. This is very clearly a game designed by someone who has a lot of neat ideas about things to put into a game, but not clear idea what the actual flow of the game he's making is supposed to be. I give this a positive review because it's a great toy to mess around with, explore, and see how all the little pieces fit together, but not as a game to sit down and try to "win" a game of wizards and warlords.

TL:DR it's a ton of really neat ideas that don't really form a cohesive whole, only suggested if you're the type of turbo-nerd who's into just poking at a thing for hours at a time to see how it works.
