"Draugen is a walking simulator that delivers while not delivering"

Step in to the shoes of Edward "Teddy", as he goes on a search to find his sister.
Traveling with his companion "Lizzie" Elisabeth they travel to Graavik, a place located in a Norwegian fjord.

Draugen does a good job on the narrative side. Being Norwegian myself I love the attempts on trying to read out English words scattered throughout the world. Having a beautiful scenery to go along with it is not wrong either.

Apart from those two aspects, the game can easily start to drag on. Edward is of the older and walks a bit slower, but not enough to get to annoyed at.
The conversations between Edward and Lizzy are soft spoken and easy to catch on too.
But with everything running so slow you want to get forward in the story, a story that keeps on building and building but sadly never delivers.

The game unfortunately gives you only two hours worth of story and gameplay, and up to three to four if you go for all achievements. With all that short time it gets quickly cramped and not enough time for you to chew on the story. Even though it is running slow at times, a bit more time and story could have done nice work to the game.

The one thing this game nails 10/10 is having a companion that doesn't get in your way, and feels like she is alive.

So all in all it delivers a out of 10 on the following

Story - 7/10
Environment - 7/10
Gameplay - 6/10

Giving the game a total score of 6.6

A bit more work could have been put in to it, but of you have some time for an interesting story Draugen could be something for you.

"Let's start off with WOW."

Base Review

The developers from Neat Corporation hit the nail on this one.
The game is well put together and works well of where and what they are trying to do.

I played through the game in a 360* space with rougly 2x2 meters of playspace.
And feelt i had more than enough space to play with.

Budget cuts plays out as a stealth type game where you use teleportation to move around.
You sadly can't use guns and will have to use throwable weapons. This does in no way take away from
the experience.

About 95% of the game requires you to think a bit of where you have to go and such,
You get a few hint throughout each level that will help you for the main objective,
but you have to figure out how to get there yourself.
Letting you take your own aproach on the situation.

During all this stealth and focus on not punshing your wall while throwing your throwables,
the story suffers a heavy shadow that pushes it almost out of the game.

PROS

- Movement (Being one that prefers directional over teleportation, i must say this type of teleportation movement was enjoyed more than i expected.)
- Combat (As mentioned above you don't have the ability to use firearms, but throwable weapons works out well. They have made it work well and don't suffer from the "clunkyness" that other games that offer throwables"
- Atmosphere (Colourfull and open areas makes you feel hinted yet in control troughtout the whole game.)

CONS

- Story (The story falls flat it has somewhat of an plot, but you keep on forgetting about it between each time you hear from it.)
- Cliping items. (Sadly some crusial items that is suposed to be in one position can often clip through and hide within bigger objects, making them close to impossible to find.)

Extra notes.

Even though it is marked "Pegi 7" some parts and specialy the last part of the game is not suited for children.

Busget Cuts gets a strong 7/10, and has the chance of getting a higher rating with further fixes.

If you like to have a relastic First-Person shooter, this is the game for you. With the posibilities to create your own missions or join thousands of other trough out the many servers there is. If the game dosen't fit you the way it is, it has greate modding support. And there is alot of mods out there. and it just keep on growing in numbers each day.

The game is set some years in the future, but is still a modern shooter. With different vehicles, from sea to air. You aproach your problems the way you want them to be solved.

If you want to play it more realastic you can always join one of the many mil-sim or realism unts there is out there.
