A New Beginning is not a perfect game. But who cares if we can finally go back to beautiful Adelpha?

As a fan of the original game, it's easy for me to look past the formulaic nature of the jump 'n' run content because there are enough quirky Talan characters to make up for it. Plus, this stuff is actually quite a lot of fun to play with the fast and dynamic jetpack movement! As are the shootouts and the more varied quests.

For people who have not played the first game, this might look like yet another scifi open world game, and to some extent it is. However, I think that new players will also appreciate the beauty, humor and depth of Adelpha. The Talans with their consistent culture and fully fleshed out language are still special, as is the awesome orchestral soundtrack.

The game is a success in giving us the sequel we have waited for all these years and I think it's also a success providing the same fun B movie experience to new players. Sure, I would have liked more experimentation regarding design concepts in line with the first game and more polish of some details. But I absolutely understand that that would have been hard to do and quite some risk with the limited team size. Maybe in the next one! :)

What a weird game. Fascinating landscapes in a weird, rough modeling style. Ugly, creepy people. Difficult fights and pretty useless weapons. Navigation challenges somewhere between jump 'n' run and puzzle. A weird mix of linear level design and a connected world opening up with you having to revisit places, pretty similar to a Metroidvania. Addicting for sure. Often I would have preferred peaceful exploration to the grinding bossfights but the challenge has a fascinating pull because the game so far has been evil quite a few times but never totally unfair.

Lovely classic adventure game with a little less frustration and a little more interaction than your typical classic. Brilliant pixel art, beautiful story and all of that with no text at all. Get this in case you like games.

Finally, Outcast can be enjoyed on modern PCs easily and without too many bugs. It works great on my machine and the game hold up fantastically. Music, lore, voice acting etc. are still special 15 years after the original release. Even the old voxels look very beautiful with high resolution and a big drawing distance. There is a special organic feel to this world that has only come to polygon engines pretty recently. Still my favourite game of all time because it established a solid living and breathing open world much earlier and IMO more successfully than GTA 3 and Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. What makes Outcast so very special is that everything has a purpose and fits together well to form a harmonic whole.
