Juggling equipable psychic abilities is a nuisance. Some abilities are more useful in combat, others important for general traversal, and others required for level progression. All the abilities are fun to use, but you don’t know which you will need until you hit a roadblock or until a fight appears without warning. You can only equip four abilities at a time. Frequently cycling through these can slow down the flow of gameplay and the pacing of the story.

That’s my only complaint.

Razputin is such a kind and soothing character to follow around. As the player controlling the protagonist I’m weirdly proud of every heroic choice he makes and every witty quip he utters. The supporting cast is incredibly endearing as well and thoughtfully written. Their motivations are made clear and they feel like real people, flawed yet capable of great courage and resilience. I don’t normally care about narrative in games but this world is just a treat to be immersed in.

Music is charming and evocative. Level design creative and diverse. Upgrades are meaningful and collectibles satisfying.

It’s a fun and competently designed platformer, runs very smooth on Steam Deck. The storytelling is a joy to experience.

Psychonauts 2: 9/10

THIS is one of my favorite games. I love this game so much from the mystery, gameplay, and every single mind you enter in this there is no awful level in this game, there are those levels that have their quirks but over all no bad minds. this was also not only the first game I ever got every achievement for but I 100%ed this game on every console its available on starting with Xbox, to PlayStation and finally PC, that's how much I love this game. I highly recommend playing this game yourself, interact with everyone in the game to see their dialogue, compare this to the first game to see all of the improvements to gameplay and fine tuning of the movement and abilities. Trust me when I say that during the 2021 game awards, Psychonauts 2 which was nominated for game of the gear ABSOLUTELY didn't really deserve game of the year, I mean it was up against It Takes Two which was extremely good which I also recommend playing (if i had a nickel for every time my favorite games got nominated for game of the year against goliaths to earned the award just for showing up, id have two nickels, which is sad it happened twice). go play both, but with the people reading this review highly recommend playing the game
