So far, in early access, the game seems to be a respectful sequel to the original great game. The new mechanics keep the style of game fresh, while providing a fun challenge.

This game is supremely awesome. It has RPG aspects in that you get to personally invest in your heroes that you level up and you can specialize them as you wish. It has third person shooter aspects in that your success often times critically relies on your ability to aim and shoot enemies, often times this is quite difficult for flying mobs or ones that are across the map! And of course, it has tower defense aspects; the core of this game is a tower defense, but you don't need to build towers to be successful, you can team up with someone who is good at towers and must rely on your DPS from your auto attacks. It is a great game with tons and tons of synergy combinations among the classes. I highly recommend it.
