So, this game at first glance looks like a dopey ragdoll physics thing and for some reason every time you get on the sub, it's on fire 25 minutes later. The training, doesn't make any sense, the electrical stuff is confusing, and the medicine cabinet gives you nightmares of A-level chemisty exams; because frankly you're the sort of person who died on the last run when you accidentally put ethanol canisters instead of oxygen cannisters into your breathing mask.

So, I'm saying you need a group of people to help you get over the hurdles.
But when you discover the depth of the game. It's SOO good.

It's creepy. It's scary and intense. It's hilarious. It has it's moments of death defying heroism. It's emotive. Great emergent gameplay. Completely unique and the best 2D graphics you've seen since 1997.

Play only with friends- teams of 3+. Play only the campaign setting. Ignore the traitor button.

If you like automation, wiring and making complicated rube goldberg logic circuits, you can buy this game for the sub designer only and you'll have a blast.

Me:
I love the dungeon keeper base building premise
I remember fondly EG1 because it brought the quirky character of a 60's supervillain with a cartoony twist, but remember the game being "light on actual gameplay".
I've been excited for this release for the last year.

Why I don't recommend it:
EG1 was light on gameplay and involved waiting around. EG2, despite improvements within the base-building core-gameplay, has problems with the progression and pacing being so slow and frustratingly full of unavoidable bottlenecks that I feel I gave up 20 hours into play. This game is nearly the same problems and appeals as the first one, so below is a baseline comparison to that. Here's what's different:

Good:
The base design is now multi-level. This is well implemented and makes the bunker feel more bunkery.
There is a cooler puzzle element to base design as the terrain boundary limits get progressively pushed out, so replanning the base is a fun challenge.
The pathfinding, reaction times of minions & UI design of all the level building aspects are significantly better than the first game- it's now mostly flawless.
Animations and base design hits expectations set by trailers.
Some of the dialogue scenes are quite fun.

Bad:
Lots and lots (i.e. too damn much) of waiting for damn progress bars.
Lots of really annoying bottlenecks where timers for some objectives interfere and delay
Bad information systems-especially the world map, where you can struggle with the UI, or information is hidden from player to cause problems.
The super agent system sucks. They limit your options to conquer the world and the optimum strategy is do nothing and waiting. Boring.
There is no help in game and not enough online to help you figure out what is going wrong.
Traps are completely ineffective and underpowered.

Different, but meh:
They've simplified lots of it.
Trap set up is now considerably more streamlined, it's not receptor-effector, it's single devices that do both.
Research has been considerably more streamlined- click a button on the tech tree once you have the pre-reqs.

Final verdict:

Not worth £35. Irritatingly, the game has all the story, animation, character design and building block "assets" it needs to be a great game, but is let down by tragic game design & slow pacing of the campaign & world map- pain points that with some better easy design choices could of been lessened. My verdict; watch a well edited lets play if you like this sort of story or maybe wait for something like "EG2 community mod- fun version" to come out- but I can't recommend playing it; the experience isn't rewarding enough.

Sorry :(

This is the most talented, most interesting, and most extraordinary game on steam right now.

Beautiful looking thing. Lots of depth and challenge. The automation and exploration both work are great gameplay elements. Great community.

I do not recommend games on this business model.

Ultimately it's a clash of clans / typical f2p model reskin where they block progression using timers and then set a paywall for removing the timers.

The art and anthill management is cool and faithful to fallout, for that reason it's worth checking out for the first 4 hours of gameplay.

I would recommend not to sink too much of your attention into this for fear of wasting your money.
