At times it can feel like the controls to this game are janky as ♥♥♥♥, but they're not, they're actually shockingly good, which makes it feel quite good when you finally figure them out and can pull off some of the demanding things the game requires of you. If you're not willing to be patient with the game for that, though, then definitely don't get it. It's not for everyone.

This game is superlative example of all of its genres, and you should play it.

This game is definitely challenging, but worth the effort. I think in its current iteration, if you do all the increasing challenge modes, it's definitely worth it. I *do* think that it's going to need some attention and love if it's going to succeed, but for $20 I've already gotten my money's worth playing with a friend.

There are a lot of reviews that talk about the melee classes being unbalanced, and I think that's true, but I don't mind it so much. If that's a thing that's going to bother you, and you're not willing to play more reserved and slowly because of that, then the game's definitely going to frustrate you and isn't worth your time.

But if you're okay playing slower, and okay playing a game with a bunch of different classes that'll likely never be in perfect harmony, that let you live some ranged and melee power fantasies, then it's worth dropping the dosh for it.

EU4, as with many Paradox products, is a lot more fun later in its lifespan with all of the DLC and fancy bells and whistles added. Having said that, I put in a lot of these hours well before that, and still enjoyed it a great deal. If you like Grand Strategy and know that almost all of it comes with some jank, you're going to have a lot of fun. If you find that frustrating, then it's not the game for you.

I'm not in the camp that Paradox is trying to squeeze money out of you with DLC for this game, either. Every time new Expansion DLC comes out, I find myself putting in another 30-40 hours, which is well worth the price of admission for that piece of DLC, and is exactly the kind of thing I want my DLC to do: extend my lifespan with the game.
