Fantastic combat system with a very satisfying parry system. I love the world and the story.
Runs amazingly well and looks great, even on lesser powered systems.

A fantastic deck builder. Very fun cards and artifacts, very interesting combinations between crew members, and the unlockable extra ships offer an excellent alternative challenge.

It's quite easy to beat on Normal, but there are harder difficulties and many many combinations of crews and ships to try out. Graphics are great (you can enable a more readable font in the Settings menu!) and the story is fun without being intrusive.

A good example of a game where a long time has been spent making it look nice, and not long enough making an engaging experience. You may enjoy it as a simple calming game to play, but it misses the mark as a puzzle game.

I very much dislike the "Stack bonus" system. It encourages you to build connections in the wrong order, which is very unsatisfying. The game should champion creating good connections that allow you to build further good connections. Instead it asks us to build connections that do nothing. This is not a fun puzzle mechanic it's an annoying piece of micromanaging.

Every couple of years we get a unique must-play puzzle game. This is one of them.

Brilliant puzzle game. If you're the kind of person that likes Cracking the Cryptic, then I bet you'll like this too.

Early Access Review
Fantastic game. Really well structured in how you start small and slowly build up. By the end you've designed an entire working computer, and as you run your code it is incredibly satisfying to see all the wires light up and the solution be calculated. Things will of course go wrong and you get to debug your hardware as well as your software.

As a software engineer I found everything here approachable and fun. If you have no coding experience I think it'll be more challenging, but each level adds only a small additional concept, so it'll be approachable to anyone who likes problem solving.

This is not a bad game, but I was left feeling disappointed with it. The world is great, but the actual story is a bit disconnected and much of the lore feels random. The mini-games start easy and remain easy for the entire game, which is a missed opportunity. Fishing doesn't feel like an accomplishment, just a chore.

This game could have been so much more than it was.

This is a fantastic deck builder that is super fun to play, with a great amount of variety. There are six characters each with a completely different play style; each has half a dozen adventures that vary the rules significantly; and each adventure has a variety of equipment you could pick up and use.

You need to think about what equipment you choose, and you need to think about how you use it during battles. Rules are reasonably short, which is great if you don't have a lot of time available, and makes defeat less punishing.

Pillars of Eternity II didn't capture my attention for very long. The ship combat is very poor and I don't look forward to it. During fights, it's very difficult to control the positioning of your characters; in particular you can't get your melee characters to hold a position. Enemies would typically just run straight past your tanks to beat up your spell casters, it's very difficult to zone them out.
