Overview
A space rogue like fps similar to Space Hulk Deathwing but with old Halo graphics and a focus on cooperative teamwork, piling on stress, murdering hordes of aliens and always dishing out a challenge. As a lovely bonus this game supports online as well as local multiplayer and I can happily say that both so far have worked well for me.This game is a lovely trudge through an alien infested, randomly generated space port and has my friends and I excited for the next go every time we all make some horrible mistake and die. A wonderful buy that I am immediately very happy with.

Combat
Hellish Stressfest

  • FPS
  • Highly Stressful
  • Permadeath
  • Quick
  • Minimal Weapon Variety
  • Friendly Fire
  • PvE or PvP

Combat in this game is the meat and potatos and an absolute nightmare, which is to say that it's perfect. Give me a moment to, in this more detailed segment, describe what I mean. As you make your way around a space station things start out quiet. You move from room to room and eventually a breach opens up An alien spawn point Nothing quite happened yet but the breach is somewhere now in the stations spawning aliens. Eventually you get to some aliens which most guns can kill just about immediately. However, when combat starts the game does everything it can to ruin your ability to make smart decisions.

Now, I love this but it might be a breaking point in the deal for some. When an alien is close the first thing to note is that the game blares music at you that makes you believe death is nigh. The second thing to happen is (if the alien is close enough) is that the FOV stretches out and your character speeds up Currently my friends and I call this adrenaline Lastly you shoot at the enemy which causes guts to spray everywhere and blinding flashes to take up the screen as you unload more panicked gunfire. It's quite in your face. Video isn't mine or anyone I know. Just thought it showed current combat well

Other Gameplay Bits
Like intense panic

  • Random maps
  • Rouge Like
  • Constant small upgrades
  • Huge difficulty range
  • Tons of game options
  • Keep character in between rounds if you live
  • Hack all the consoles and you win
  • Use laser grids and turrets to defend
  • Reset the power if it goes down
  • Crippling PTSD

When you aren't panic firing into a crowd and hoping to not hit your friend the game is largely exploration based. You move through halls of a mazelike randomly generated map to secure datapoints which grant upgrades and are your primary objective. Once all the datapoints have been touched, you shut off the reactor cooling and then hightail it out of the space station before everything explodes. Simple right?

Well it would be if you didn't have to worry about the alien horde growing more powerful with each growing second. Although there are doors, laser grids and turrets to help you defend along the way. These defensive structures are great and do a wonderful job but if the power goes out randomly then you have to reset it at a breaker which might not be nearby and could wipe your whole squad if a carefully defended hallway behind you suddenly is overrun. Not to mention the overwhelming sense of dread that totally engulfs you when the lights go pitch black. Even with Halo 1 graphics and my friends by my side this game is still something that gets me a bit scared or at the very least, more stressed than is healthy.

Complaints
Only because I want to be a balanced critic

  • Poor Update history
  • Potentially the graphic style
  • Small community
  • Minimal Weapon Variety
  • Some bugs(nothing major that I've seen)

To address each of these I'll detail them briefly.

The poor update history is really just a recent gap that seems like the dev has had some life stuff happen. But the most recent update was in Nov of 2016 (as of this review 2/3/17) Which isn't terrible. This being an early access game though it does merit some worry that it might not finish any time soon. That being said, I'm happy with the game how it is and if it never updates again I'll still play and enjoy it even if I'd be massively disappointed to see such a gem go to waste.

Graphic style is like it looks not up to par with the next AAA you might be excited about. It's original xbox fps graphics and if this bothers you enough then don't get it. This to me is great as I feel like the art and style of it doesn't get explored enough. Regardless of whether or not this is artistic or lazy it looks great.

The Small community should only be a problem if you don't have any friends who might be willing to get a copy of the game or come over. Although single player is possible.

In this game there are a total of 5 different guns. Rifle, shotgun, razer (smg) and Hammer 2x or 4x (Rifle that fires 2 or 4 rounds) All the weapons feel great but I wish I could see some other neat ideas.

Bugs! I've only had an issue with bugs where loading into a game goes on forever. Other than that one bug, which can be fixed by just exiting and reloading the game, I haven't seen any other issues.

Conclusion
A lovely stressful FPS game with great bones that I've had a blast with. Hands down recommend you get it and if anything has put you on the fence about getting it then I'd tell you to just wait for a sale. Normal price is 15$ but I was able to get 2 copies in a sale for 16$ at a 3rd party website (Chrono.gg)
