Not having a lot of the issues other people are having with this game. In fact, I'm having a lot of fun with it! The only problem is that some bosses seem to hard counter certain builds -- for example, I'm pumping Inferno, and this guy is resisting near all of my fire damage while also having probably 6k health. NPC summons are useless and matchmaking is very hit or miss.

Could I buy an item to respec? Yeah, after farming a bunch of easy enemies for a boring couple of minutes. But I'd have to learn a different playstyle and figure out where to get some of the seemingly very rare 2nd tier weapon upgrade materials.

I don't believe any games in this "genre" really have this problem except this one...

It's also surprisingly linear, but I don't think that's too terrible.

If you have problems with this game crashing when navigating menus, switch to Windowed or Borderless Windowed mode. I was constantly crashing in Fullscreen but exiting that fixed it. I don't believe Patch 1.02 addressed this at all (notorious Japanese PC Port nonsense!).

There really does not seem to be much benefit playing Fullscreen anyway, since HDR does not work correctly and is extremely washed out.

You can pretend this review is Negative, but I think this is a solid 9/10 game so I can't really justify keeping it a thumbs down.

Final Fantasy, but it's actually a good game. And a good story. Good characters. Really pulls the whole conceit of FF1 together.

The little nods to other FF games in the area redesigns are neat.

Also, it's Nioh, but good.

Yeah, there are performance issues. It's not "unplayable" and I have, basically, the recommended specs (last gen CPU, 2080).

I want to recommend it on the basis that it's an incredibly good Monster Hunter clone, with some very cool and fun monsters to fight. And IMO the karakuri system is a lot better than how wirebugs turned out in Rise -- though if there's any lag in a multiplayer session they have serious issues functioning.

The armor system is very unique. It doesn't have the same depth of buildcrafting as Monster Hunter, but it ties into the weapon system pretty interestingly with an "alignment" slider that determines which skills you can use.

Weapons are neat as well. I'm not sure if you only need to craft one of each weapon type -- it seems like you can switch between upgrade nodes without spending resources or un-unlocking them -- but you might actually want to craft more because upgrading along different paths allows you to combine subskills that change how you want to play using that specific weapon type.

The story is nothing to write home about and I'm skipping the entire thing.

I would say absolutely wait until they drop a performance patch if you're on the fence -- again, it's not unplayable, but it's nowhere near where it should be -- but this is definitely a game you should check out if you like this kind of thing at all.

Cute game that shows promise.

Subjectively, I don't like that it isn't actually a twin-stick shooter in spite of its insistence that it plays like one. Auto-target with right stick swapping isn't the vibe I wanted from this game. It probably isn't balanced to support changing to a real TSS and the developer probably doesn't want that, but I don't think (for me) it's interesting enough to actually play.

I don't like walking simulators. The puzzles are easy. The combat isn't fun. But I think Scorn is more than the sum of its parts. It's a very interesting art piece that brings to life a fantastic style and creepy, intriguing world that you don't really see any 3D games try and emulate. I think it's worth experiencing.
