"Ah, hello Dr. Freeman"

This is one of the better early access releases Ive played in the last 10 years. It works on release day, its interface is not terrible and it has content for more than a single weekend. Lets see if they can deliver.

The Editor will be released early next year
This is really not looking good for you. Releasing a sequel with less features than the current game? Not good. Releasing a sequel with less features than the release version of your last game? Thats really bad.

Edit:
Someone will complain, that this review is low effort (irony) so here is more:

- cars getting stuck forever without despawning, stopping all traffic in your city
- public transport getting stuck in stations for minutes, halting all traffic
- performance even on lowest setting (on a 1080ti)
- import and export is completly out of your hand and has no rhyme or reason
- industry and offices ignore available ressource production and city ressource demands and build random stuff (90% of my city production was electronics for some reason, instead of producing stuff i actually desperatly need like food)
90% of your school goers are elementary students
- citizens demand more hospitals and police, even if your hospital and police are completly idle and no patrol cars are moving
- water sources + terraforming tool = restart an earlier save or start a new map
- industry going bankrupt by raising the land value under their own feet

Alot more but i dont care anymore. There is a solid game under there and I am impressed seeing hundred thousands of citizens and cars moving at the same time, but those bugs should have been noticed while bugtesting. It is impossible to play this game without running into these issues.

Fix the industry, fix the traffic, give us the editor and this game is worth its price.

But I fear that it might be too late and next year everyone will have moved on and the modding scene will be dead on arrival.

Creating a problem and then selling the solution? I wish ♥♥♥♥ like this was illegal.
(with the release of this DLC leaders got a severe limit, but got significantly stronger ONLY IF you own this DLC)

Even though I hate isometric games with a passion this is one of the most amazing games Ive ever played. It has the most satisfying destructive terrain Ive ever experienced. I wish the dev team had more manpower to make a 3d game, or make it coop, or give it more progression for replayability. I need more!

Also military weapons feel like actual military weapons. Artillery can level whole city blocks and 20mm cannons go through buildings like paper.

I can recommend this game for the satisfying shooting and destruction mechanics alone. If you played factorio and were dissapointed with combat not being part of the gameplay loop, this game is for you. This is a shooter game first and a factory game second.

My biggest complaint is the hilariously awful map editor tho. That thing is a bad joke. Im pretty sure only the guy who made it is able to understand how to use it.

The game could be easily fixable if you would be able to even give the most basic of commands to your units like "all around me follow the unit im currently controlling", "go there", "do not enter the next ring until this one is cleared!!!!!!"
Im pretty sure the devs noticed that making the units smarter (not triggering every camp without actually destroying them) would have made this into an idle game (which would have been more than ok for its costs), but to fix the "problem" they added tedium and annoying micromanagment. If I wanted that, I would have gone back to Starcraft, where I can actually control my units.

Everything else about this game is pretty nice, the unit design, the abilities and the progression. But the controls of this game are just depressing.

Edit: Also there should be the ability "guard position". "Hold position" is a death sentence, because the unit will not flee if it gets overrun. There is no point in holding position when the entire game your units are keeping themselves alive by kiting the enemies non stop.

Sadly this game has an inverted difficulty. The first map is the hardest and every map after that gets easier, since you can transfer ressources between maps (also you unlock more and more perks). The rest is just grind. I wish this game had a proper difficulty or progression curve.

Other than that everything else about this game is amazing, but the weird difficulty ruins it. If this game had attack waves that would get more and more difficult every map, it would work fine.
