SteamOS & Windows benchmarks

BTW, if you ever get bored with your Windows 8.1 install, you should consider testing out my Linux on Windows distribution (aka turn Windows into Linux desktop but still play Windows games at full speed). I'm really curious how it works on a Windows 8.1 host as I've only tested it on Windows 10.

I most certainly will at some point. I have full, "PAID-FOR" retail keys for Windows XP, 7, and 8.1,
and I'm not afraid to use them. ;-)

Haha nice. The funny thing is that it works on unactivated versions just as well. I mean Windows (10 anyway) is basically a free OS as it can be downloaded right from Microsoft's website in ISO form and used indefinitely in an unactivated state--it just prevents you from changing personlization settings and shows a watermark. However, because my software completely replaces the Windows shell with a Linux desktop like GNOME, Cinnamon, etc. those limitations disappear and Windows becomes nothing more than a hidden background runtime engine. :P

No. It's just some crappy HP 23" monitor from Best Buy that I didn't feel the need to douse with gasoline and burn.

Once I get the ... (wait for it) .... Sony 4K television (hopefully with Dolby Vision support), I will be happy to whore-out many a game for everyone's edification! :beatmeat:

Yeah, I got myself a Asus 27" 1080p panel. it doesn't have FreeSync, G-Sync, nor HDR but it has a pretty good 1ms response time. It was basically free as I got it via points that I've earned at work for sales to use on an online marketplace. I connected it to my high-end gaming laptop with an external mouse and keyboard and use that as a desktop machine now (almost never as a laptop). The laptop screen does support G-Sync though if I ever wanted to try that out lol.

Yeah I have a 4K LG TV but I don't believe it supports HDR--it's a few years old now. It has 3D support, though.

Have you checked in-game graphics options to see if the Linux version supports that too?

I did see a line item for it in the XML benchmark files. It caught my eye.

<graphics_card deviceId="0x11C0" rating=""> <resolution width="1920" height="1080" displayMode="1" vsync="false" vsyncInterval="2"> <refreshRate numerator="0" denominator="0" /> <windowPosition x="0" y="0" /> <outputMonitor index="1" /> <aspectRatio auto="true" width="0" height="0" /> <hdr mode="0" peakNits="1000" /> </resolution> </graphics_card>

Not sure if it's working in Linux, or just vestigial, but it's there.

VMShell v3.0 Linux Distribution
Hey group,

I'm happy to present version 3.0 of my VMShell virtualized Linux distribution and Windows shell replacement software for Windows 10.

Transform your Windows OS into a Linux distributon and play and run almost all Windows games and software at full-speed, and full-compatibility in a GNOME Linux desktop environment without the complication and problems of Wine.

Features:
  • Support for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update
  • Automated installer for all necessary software
  • Documentation and b

It's good to be cautious as you cannot trust people but this is certainly not a virus. The source code to my scripts are included along with documentation. A virus wouldn't need to be a 2GB download. Instead that 2GB is a virtual image file of my custom Linux distribution.

However, this software is only for people who want to try out Linux and transform their Windows installation into a distribution, without dual-booting or giving up their current games. Meaning when you log into your Windows account, within seconds, the explorer.exe shell will be terminated and your system booted into a GNOME desktop environment that acts as a shell replacement for explorer. However, you can still get back to the Windows desktop by doing this:

* Click on the 'Exit VM' launcher from the System Control folder
* Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open task manager then run 'explorer.exe'

You can stop the software from automatically starting at Windows boot by moving the 'vmlaunch.cmd' startup script out of C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

Which is why it is posted here and not the Linux forum. To have gullible users download the malware.

Um my software isn't malware and Steam Universe used to be mainly a Linux oriented group. "SteamOS" is a Linux distribution but this group has since been overran by CS:GO and skins spam.
