Tried installing intel-microcode, also downgrading to 2.2.0 with no luck. Although 2.2.0 gave me a different Segmentation fault error. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you

Have you ran this?:
sudo apt-get update

I have. Tried it again just in case, no updates. No change.

Try the vlc-2.2.3.tar.xz from VLC from their FTP.
On SteamOS as well as Mint I mostly use archived programs (VLC, Firefox, etc.), because the newer versions often aren't yet finished for the my GNU/Linux distribution.

I'm trying that suggestion now. I'm missing a lot of libs/ dependencies tho, thinking this option might take awile. Is there am auto dependacy command by chance?

Keep both, the "apt-get" installed VLC (default from Debian/SteamOS repositories) and launch the archeved one, maybe the dependencies intalled from the VLC.deb will work with VLC archived version. I don't know how to resolve dependencies out from "apt-get", I only know after "dpkg" use
apt-get -f install
.

I was having this issue as well but by installing more current video drivers the issue was resolved for me.
