Valve has mandatory updates on all their games, not just Rockstars. This is a valve policy. There is nothing wrong with frequent updates, just steam implementation.
what do you mean I don't have problem with steam and is this not the discussion forum? guys stop trying to pass this off as a Rocstar issue. It's a steam issue.
Updates are mandatory on all steam games. What would talking to Rockstar accomplish. I don't want them to stop updating because steam has wanky update policy. That just doesn't make sense.
there should be NO MANDATORY updates on ANY GAMES! It shouldn't be up to the developpers. It should be up to the user as the game license and copy are his property upon purchase. Mandatory updates is a new trend that's surfaced in the last few years. It should be fought. Not accepted. This is yet another example of developers trying to wrench control out of the end users hands.
My ignorance of the fine caveats steam update policy is besides the main point: THERE SHOULD BE NO MANDATORY UPDATES on anything. It shouldn't be up to the devs. It's my PC, I should manage it the way I want to.
The decision is theirs.
It is your pc and you can manage it how you want. Plenty of options there. Take it offline, put steam in offline mode. But its their game and they can manage it how THEY want.
Don't like it, well thats your problem.

Steam and your Subscription(s) require the automatic download and installation of Content and Services onto your computer. Valve hereby grants, and you accept, a non-exclusive license and right, to use the Content and Services for your personal, non-commercial use (except where commercial use is expressly allowed herein or in the applicable Subscription Terms). This license ends upon termination of (a) this Agreement or (b) a Subscription that includes the license. The Content and Services are licensed, not sold. Your license confers no title or ownership in the Content and Services. To make use of the Content and Services, you must have a Steam Account and you may be required to be running the Steam client and maintaining a connection to the Internet.
For reasons that include, without limitation, system security, stability, and multiplayer interoperability, Steam may need to automatically update, pre-load, create new versions of or otherwise enhance the Content and Services and accordingly, the system requirements to use the Content and Services may change over time. You consent to such automatic updating. You understand that this Agreement (including applicable Subscription Terms) does not entitle you to future updates, new versions or other enhancements of the Content and Services associated with a particular Subscription, although Valve may choose to provide such updates, etc. in its sole discretion."
Oh, try to test the Subscriber Agreement you agreed upon.
That's just a load of bull. This isn't a rental that's residing in my pc. I don't own the software as in I can't for example resell the game. But they can't go into my PC and modify my copy which is located on my propery and force updates without my consent either. That's the way virus behave.
