Direct3D Problem
Direct3D cannot be generated/created. pls be sure, to have the lates graficdrivers installed.

Thats basically the message i get when i try to launch it via steam since today.

First off: i played it until 24 h ago without any problems. Inbetween that time i updated my radeon softwareprogram from an older version to 17.7.1 (crimson relive or what it is called).
That are all the changes i made.
im running a R9 390, on a win7-64.

ScFA tells me to update... wtf ♥♥♥♥ random errormassages...

i already reinstalled it with steam. Other games do well. Anyone with ideas on that? i basically have no clue what to do besides reinstalling but that already didnt do anything. A more up-to -date d3d isnt out, nor a update for that radeon stuff.

Well, when you say Radeon software program, what exactly do you mean? The officially published name of the software would be most helpful to identifying what exact role it plays in this Drect3D problem.

I wrote in the first post that its called ---->crimson relive <---- its the "one and only" software that you can get from amd to manage your video card, not only this, cuz u can do a lot of other things with it like videocapturing, set diffrent settings for each of your games and whatever else. E.G. Eyefinity - if that is a name you can work with - is as well included with the other stuff i already mentioned. I belive nvidia has something similar.
To get clear about that "programbundle": i didnt change anything there, just update to the latest version, heck im not even sure if thats the reason why SCFA is bugging around.

Well, anyone who knows me can already tell what I'm going to say. I personally hate 'program optimisers', such as Radeon Software Crimson ReLive, because they not only cause the odd compatibility issue, but they also tend to slow the average game rather than speed it up, from my experience. I now use my computer with only Steam, IDT (audio), Synaptics (touchpad), and a few critical Windows background processes running, especially while playing games - and have so few compatibility issues it's glorious.

So, I suggest that you try Supreme Commander without Crimson ReLive running. You don't have to uninstall it. Just have a look through the Processes running in Task Manager, find one or two that look like they are named after Radeon Software Crimson ReLive, then End those Tasks (I did a quick Internet search and couldn't find the exact Process name for you). Hopefully Supreme Commander will then be able to launch as normal. Radeon Software Crimson ReLive will very likely start up again the next time your computer restarts (or you can launch the program manually by searching in the Start Menu for it, or searching through the files in Program Files).

If that does not work, then we can figure something else out.

Also the game uses the direct x 9 renderer, sometimes that can get messed up (your most likely running dx11 if on win 10 or direct x 10 if on 7,8).

Try reinstalling direct x 9. (it will only install anything missing, it will not overide the newer versions of files, as dx11 does not contain all the same files as dx9 etc)

It can also do this if for some reason the game is trying to set a werid resolution you could try to edit game.prefs default resolution in appdata which is a hidden folder

C\Users\"user name"\appdata\Local\GasPoweredGames\SupremeCommander

open game.prefs in notepad and scroll down and change default resolution to your native resolution mine is 1920,1080,60' and save.
