will the ai be less stupid on civ 6 do u think?
I love the civ series but the stupidness of ai warfare really kills civ 5. I'm at diety level now and regularly hold off mass attacks from ai armies even if im outnumbered and flanked maybe 10 to 1 sometimes. They embark stupidly, stay in range of range units on when on low health and generally act super dumb with cannons embarking in water instead of firing at a city. Naval warfare is usually non existant from ai and even the rare occasion when i saw 8 ai ship of the lines outside a city of mine they all didnt fire at the city instead just moved around until i killed them over around 10 turns.

To quote Washington: "of course not!"

Try make games with ai paired off, 2 attillas, 2 washingtons etc.. or even 3.. of the same.. all teamed.. makes for some great games.. and issues with armies.

It depends heavily upon what kind of combat system they decide to use. 1 unit per tile brought on additional difficulties of programming, and if they run with a very similar system in Civ 6 I doubt the tactical aspects of AI will improve much at all.

Regarding your original question... I doubt it will be improved since workers and AI have been dumb in Civilization V since 2011 (although it was way worse in 2011!) and they have sold millions of copies. Today you can still catch your workers travel 30 tiles to construct a random road in friendly territory (which does not even connect).

I agree that part of it will depend on the combat system, but I really hope that the AI are smarter in city building as well. The AI has no real concept of where to settle and sometimes it's just irritating when you take their cities over and honestly just have to raze them. Moreover, it would be good if the AI was smarter diplomatically as well-- I mean come on there really is no such thing as allies in Civ 5 (but there was in Civ4). Overall, they better have smarter AI or Civ 6 won't be that different from Civ 5.

And addition to combat and city settling, they are also very stupid and passive in strategic decisions what it comes to winning the game.

Just won germany diety game with diplomatic victory, second round. It's fine and nice, yeah, but.. Washington got over 20k gold, and he did absolutely nothing but whined that i stole his CS allies a few turns before vote. :)

So stupid it almost made me feel bad to win the game. Same deal with all of the victory types, they don't try to do whatever it takes to stop you from winning, like they should. They don't do anything at all.

Ai is for learn basics. Not for real challenge. No point to bother improve it then. What needs to be improved is lobby and freezing disconnecting during multiplayer.

Fixed that for you.

If people were any good at programming real artificial intelligence, they would be focused on just doing that and wouldn't bother with video games.

I believe there was a quote from Sid Meier himself where he literally said that improving AI was not even on his radar. Not that he has any particular part in developing the game, but his name is in the title, so...

I do not appreciate fake quotes.

But regarding the history and worker ai: Workers in Civilization IV were fine, you could have them improve "nearest city" or "network" etc. Those guys actually did their job closer to what you wanted.

Fake quotes? LOL

You didn't play Civ4 all that much if you think workers were fine.
