Who does and doesn't use followers?
I tend to not use followers, but when a quest makes me use one I usually don't have a problem. For example, during the Dawnguard questline I actually enjoyed Serana as a follower and grew attached to her (not that way you pervs). But most of the time (which is all the time) I don't like using followers, I prefer to explore the world alone. Sure, it would be fun to have a follower dress up like a Stormcloak or Imperial and raid a camp, but I just never use them. Just wanted to post a discussion on Skyrim that isn't complaining about the game or asking how to fix a certain bug lol.

I use them once in a while but usually I also prefer roaming Skyrim alone. Some of them (with the use of mods ofcourse) are quite fierce later though.

I like followers. Roaming Skyrim alone, can feel, well very alone. It partly depends on how I play. When I play as an archer, it’s fun to see someone else shooting arrows too while attacking a bandit camp.

The other thing is that the first few hours on master or legendary are very difficult without a follower.

In a next (single player) installment of TES I would like to see more possible interaction with followers. And of course improved AI would be welcome.

You mentioned Serana. One of the advantages of Serana during the Dawnguard quests is that it gives me the feeling to accomplish something for somebody else.

This is something that also could be expanded on. The possibility to become part of the storyline of an NPC.

i use lydia becouse SHe is sworn to carry my burdens
DecayWolf 21. sep. 2013 kl. 5.28
I need them to carry everything... they're my mule, my precious mule.
Also on legendary some times, we got on dangerous situations and we need a tanker for a while, mainly when you're leveling up secondary skills with no perks on it, so what could be better than a mule? A tanker mule of course.

followers, don't need no stinkin' followers, cuz i the great DRAGONBORN.

I only use followers when I'm going to a tough place with a low level and a weird build. Such as my barbarian that I sent to Solstheim as a level 6.
Nekomancer 21. sep. 2013 kl. 7.59
i start using followers after about lv60+. even though the standard mob's are super easy at this point, Boss mob's will continue to level with you forever. trust me, after about level 200, boss mob's start to have HP level's that can get rediculous's. ive seen boss mob's with over 10000hp and they take forever to kill so follower's are there just to help spam his health down and make the battle's shorter.
