On your bog standard RPG, you are an adventurer on your way to save the world, fight armies, or even just picking berries. But in this game, the roles are reversed and you're the owner of an item shop that sells items and weapons to adventurers.
This game is very fun to play, and I have put about 17 hours into it already, with the intention to put in more.
I would reccomend this game to RPG fans, but I can see why some may not like Recettear. The enemies are not that diverse and the RPG elements are rather shallow. However, that is not where the true appeal of this game comes from. No, that comes from the buying and selling of items. It is awesome to buy say, a cake during a food shortage, giving you an excuse to charge extortionate prices (such as 300% of the original price) and make a but load of money.
Character wise this game delivers well enough, giving you the doofy but likeable Recette, the stern but kind Tear, and many more characters (though I will admit to not remembering most of their names, just very prominant parts of their personality).
In the end, I would recommend this game...as long as you get it in a sale.
