Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition

Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition

Any other games like Deus Ex?
I'm replaying the Deus Ex franchise and having finished Human Revolution & The Fall I've moved on to the original. I'm loving this game having not played it in over a decade. A lot of the politics and issues in the game make more sense to me after all these years.

Besides the Deus Ex series itself, are there any games or franchises that are similar to it? I suspect I've already played the few games that were influenced by Deus Ex like Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines and Alpha Protocol. I know many people compare AP to Mass Effect, and there are similarities, but I'd say it has far more in common with Deus Ex and recommend it to anyone asking the same question I am now.

Try System Shock 2.

I actually tried it but didn't really like it at the time as it was after playing Deus Ex. That said I just bought it on sale to give it another chance. In fact I plan on giving it a try after I finish Invisible War.

System Shock 2 is a very different game - and in my opinion hasn't aged as good as Deus Ex did. I haven't finished it, so I can't say how good and engrossing it is - but I found it to be very different than DX from what I played of it.

You might also want to check out the Bioshock series. The first two Bioshock games are the only ones I played, but they offer a compelling and engrossing setting which guarantees great immersion. Plotwise they're both strong, though the community leans in favor of #1 more - probably because it was the first game. They're more streamlined than DX, meaning that you move from stage to stage in an ordered manner, but allow you to make some decisions influencing the plot and gameplay, and also allow you to customize your character as you play bit like DX did - instead of augmentations, you will use plasmids which will give your character additional abilities. I'd recommend getting Bioshock 1 and seeing how you like it - it's not going to be expensive on a sale.

Thief series. Much less forgiving though, especially the early games.

And in some regard the Metal Gear series, mostly the PSX/PS2 era. Although get ready for a plot so convuluted that it makes Deus Ex look like a kindergarten children book.

You might like E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy if you liked the first Deus Ex game. The game is a bit buggy and the stealth is broken, but otherwise it's fun. The game is also a lot more complex, but not for the better. The level design suffers with lots of empty rooms and walks. But hey, if you can grab it for 1$ or 2$, then it will be worth it.

Also, System Shock 2. While not exactly the same, comes very close. It's a great game, and if i dare to say even better than Deus Ex.

I should have picked the series up during the holiday sale. I've been eyeing it for a long time and its spoken very highly of.

One of the weirdest games I've ever played. One of the only times I can think of where bad localization may have actually helped the product.

Its kind of embarassing as a PC gamer realizing how many classic franchises I've overlooked.

E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy ....neon signs, dark streets, hacking - all this reminded Deus Ex

Deus Ex is the one and only, Monolith standing tall over all other games, none comes even close. 'Any other games like Deus Ex?' simply does not compute. It's like asking are there any other artists like David Bowie. Ummm wait a few hundred years? maybe just maybe someone will pop up.

Can't say on Metal Gear as haven't played it but definitely agree with the Thief series (excluding last years) as they're similar in the way that you can do things in multiple ways and how you can kill or make unconcious.

Haven't played this either, but considering that Deus Ex is the second related gane listed on Google when searched the game I think that says something.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty: The quintessential (post)-cyberpunk videogame.

Post-punk is still cyberpunk - albeit from a different vantage point.

well best bet would be E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy, its replayability is good but not as awesome as Deus Ex´. It´s not a stealth game though, but it has multiple endings + side quests + secrets.

System Shock 2 hasn´t aged well? With a texture overhaul mod, the game feels very polished and smooth, with much better and modern interface, mainstream-compatible gameplay (compared to DE) and a nice game flow. I´d say it has aged much better than Deus Ex (oh, those terrible hitboxes etc.)

Hitboxes weren't THAT bad. Without mods, I'd say System Shock 2 has aged worse than Deus Ex due to its engine.
