Beta test: Casual difficulty mode
As mentioned in the pinned Difficulty discussion, we've been actively working on more granular difficulty options since we saw
some press /streamers having difficulty with the game.

We're going to publish a beta build soon containing the new "Casual" difficulty into a beta branch on Steam where people can test it out and give feedback.

Would anyone be interested in being part of that?
(You'll need to own the game).

Hey Rogue Llama, please add me to the beta test :)
Doing some final balance testing on it and then will send instructions.

yep , i am interested !
OK, I've just pushed the Casual mode update to the beta branch. Please follow the steps below to try it out.

  • Goto C:\Users\[username]\AppData\LocalLow\RogueCode\ViciousAttackLlamaApocalypse and make a copy of the [numbers]llamasincold.storage file to your desktop or somewhere. This update shouldn't effect your save, but just in case.
  • Open Steam > Right click VALA > Properties > BETAS tab > Put "LlamasGoneWild" in the box > Click CHECK CODE > Click the drop down box and select "beta -"
  • Restart Steam to force the game to update to the beta.

That should be everything.
Once you open the game the menu now has Casual and Hard modes. Your progress from before will be in the Hard mode, but now you can play in Casual.
Your perk unlocks and weapon progression apply to all difficulty modes, but unlocking Districts only applies to the difficulty mode you're currently in.
You can go back and forth between difficulty modes.

Please feedback on here or Discord with how you're finding it!

Casual is still pretty hard, but drops are more frequent, mech is a little harder to kill, llamas are a tad slower, but overall I find it quite a lot more enjoyable now than prior.

I’ve moved over to my old Xbox controller now, so just getting the hang of aiming again with it, but I find moving with the controller waaaay easier, so I haven’t gotten as far as I’d like, but then I haven’t put loads of time it.

That being said, in the last 20 mins I have been playing, I got to stage 2 and 3 with a decent level of ease compared to previously.
Thanks for the feedback d4zza! Please let me know how it progresses :)

Thanks so much for the casual mode. It is a bit easier for us noobs to top downs. I am still directionally challenged but that is not the game's fault. I will get my head around not being able to rotate the screen.

The llamas are definitely slower, the mech stronger and the drops more frequent. Still a tough challenging game though - but that is what makes it fun. It kinda makes you wanna "get" those llamas.

Getting used to the weapons is also a challenge as some of them are slower than others and you have to use different strats with each one. But that too is nice. I do find myself reluctant to pick up new weapons because I like the current one (like the ice cannon). Don't want to lose it. Is there a way to switch between weapons that I may have missed?

Still trying to see what a post box looks like though I have destroyed 4 already lol.

My son played the normal version and is totally hooked - he found it challenging but quickly adapted to the mechanics and was soon slaughtering llamas, leaving blood and guts in his wake. I am sure he will write his own review.

I do think you have now catered to most people who will play the game. Your humour is spot on and very entertaining. Thanks for a great game.

Thank you for the feedback! Can you estimate for me how many sections you were getting through before, and how many you are now?

Hey Rogue,

[As a single-player only]

Really happy with the casual beta! Previously I was able to make a max 4-5 sections of the first district but made it all the way to the end of the first district and unlocked the second now, with a moderate amount of health remaining.

Suffice to say I'm now even more hooked to the game! Casual mode is noticeably easier and more enjoyable for single player. In hard mode, I'm unable to make it through the first section (with pistols) without losing the majority of my health.

I'm so bad at games that even on casual mode I can't finish the first district.
Solitude, can you tell me how many weapons you have unlocked and how many perks? And what section are you getting to before you die?
Finally, have you been using jumpsmash, dash, shield?

Will check tomorrow evening and let you know. I've gotten to the last section twice now. Seriously though, I really sucked at games this weekend. Had a bad time in Elite Dangerous too.

And yes, I've been using jumpsmash and shield but not dash.
