Dungeon Defenders
Game won't start on Ubuntu Linux
So after much delay, DD is available on Steam for Linux, YAY! But after downloading the game, I cannot play. I have verified the game cache, and deleted and re-downloaded the game. When I click the game, I get the standard Steam message: "Preparing to Launch Dungeon Defenders" but the game never actually comes up. I checked System Monitor and it comes up for about 15 seconds or so before disappearing. To my friends it shows me as playing Dungeon Defenders for that same time, but I never see so much as a splash screen. I'm not getting any errors popping up, and I don't know how to get error info from the console. Is anyone else having this issue, and if so can you help?

check the bugtracker here: https://bugzilla.icculus.org/buglist.cgi?product=Dungeon%20Defenders&component=everything&resolution=---&list_id=238
as you can see, for example the issue with mana not moving has been reported like 4 months ago, but yet no fix. and to be true, seeing dd2 marketing already coming up, i dont think they ever will fix it.
I was there yesterday looking for a fix, and I think the team that Trendy contracted (or whatever) to port it to Linux isn't very big. In fact, there is only one guy doing these bug fixes, so I imagine it might take a second to get to everything. I'm just glad more developers are doing native Linux support. I'm gonna keep giving them my dollars so they know this is a good place to put their works. Besides I havent had any such problems with the other Steam for Linux games I play, so I can be a little patient.
So I ran the program from command line and got an error about a missing shared library. I found it, copied it over, and got a new error:

lee@Galactica:~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Dungeon Defenders/UDKGame/Binaries$ sudo ./DungeonDefenders-x86 Setting breakpad minidump AppID = 65800 Steam_SetMinidumpSteamID: Caching Steam ID: 76561198071237231 [API loaded no] XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0" after 123 requests (123 known processed) with 0 events remaining. XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0" after 18 requests (18 known processed) with 0 events remaining. POSIXThreads: Unable to lock mutex! POSIXThreads: Unable to unlock mutex!

I can't find this error elsewhere, so I'm posting it here.

I had that same initial error because the libSDL2.2 was not found. After fixing it much the same way I had this error but only when I tried to run the game while steam was not running. Have you tried running the game after steam had started up?
Launching it from the DD screen in my Library stil doesn't work. It definitely starts running, as it shows up on system monitor for about 15 seconds before just shutting off.
why are you sudoing the game? you should not. Post your system information here.

(* The preferred and easiest way to get this information is from Steam's Hardware Information viewer from the menu (Help -> System Information). Once your information appears: right-click within the dialog, choose Select All, right-click again, and then choose Copy. Paste this information into your report, preferably in a code block.)
Ubuntu 13, GNOME enviromet, "Dungeon Defenders"

On launch, ONLY shows logo screens [Press any key to continue], then a black window and nothing else. When black window is open I have no mouse and have to force quit [Alt][F4].

Same for dwarfs on ubuntu 12.10...it doesnt even start, altough the cpu is rushing to 100 %...
Ive had the same problem except I can run it then the developers come up and then the video, and then i see the next screen and it just freezez.

So No-Name, I abandoned this project after no results. Then I decided to give it a try again, and found that DD had an update! So after the update, I had the exact problem in that link! However, I did the fix (install gnome-screensaver) and now my system doesn't crash every time I run DD! BUT, still the game doesn't load! I'll post an error once I can get to it.
So here is my error:

Setting breakpad minidump AppID = 65800 Steam_SetMinidumpSteamID: Caching Steam ID: 76561198071237231 [API loaded no] Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I have no idea what this means.

You have a really old gfx chip. That 945g is below minimum requirements and doesn't run unreal engine 3 that DD uses.
