Linux Version Issues
I've bought the game in the humble bundle package and downloaded the linux version. I'm getting an error on the launch, the pop up message says "Failed to find default engine .ini file to retrieve My Documents subdirectory to use. Force quitting."

Cosole:
./DungeonDefenders Dungeon Defenders: Installed in '/home/micha/qBT_dir/DungeonDefenders'. XIO: fatal IO error 2 (No such file or directory) on X server ":0" after 18 requests (18 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

p.s.: Also a strange thing I've noticed the .tar.bz2 archive is 4,8 GB but the unpacked folder only 1,6 GB

Getting a similar problem where I'm trying to launch the game and the windowing manager looks like it crashed, as well I get a window asking if I want to logout. I'm on Linux Mint 14 64-bit with MATE.

I haven't been able to get a terminal log yet, but I'll try it again and see if I can.
Jop. similar problem. I´m on OpenSuse 12.2 x64 with Linux 3.6.8. As Windows Manager KDE 4.9 SC.

I did a bit of digging and the linux version script in PATH_TO_DUNDEF/DungeonDefenders points to an executable called PATH_TO_DUNDEF/UDKGame/Binaries/DungeonDefenders-x86 which to me, the x86 implies that the game is meant to be 32-bit.

I haven't been able to test this theory because I'm on ArchLinux, 64-bit running Cinnamon. Every time I try running the startup script in the cmd line, the shell crashes. And every time I try the binary executable, my whole desktop environment crashes, both without any obvious error.

I'm going to do a bit more digging, and report back what I find :)

EDIT: It's odd, I can't find any error logs in the usual place. At least nothing pertaining to this. I'm getting the exact same error as Aishou, but my first process is 123 instead of 149.

Also, in PATH/UDKGame/Binaries/xdg-open it seems to try to detect the desktop environment (gnome, kde, xfce4, and generic). What it does with this information, it will take a smarter man than me to figure out, but it might hold a clue? Except it wouldn't explain Aishou's problem with kde.

EDIT2: Found a list of system requirements with packages http://support.humblebundle.com/customer/portal/articles/881497-humble-indie-bundle-7-system-requirements#dungeondefenders
I had to install libc and my libstdc++ was up to date. Hmmm...

Did installing lbc help at all?

After some fiddling (and trying to figure out of I actually had libstdc++ installed), I have come up empty handed and am getting the error:

[USER@Capricorn ~]$ /home/USER/Games/DungeonDefenders/DungeonDefenders Dungeon Defenders: Installed in '/home/USER/Games/DungeonDefenders'. XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0.0" after 123 requests (123 known processed) with 0 events remaining. Did you guys also have the odd difference in sizes of the packed and unpacked game folders too? ".tar.bz2 archive is 4,8 GB but the unpacked folder only 1,6 GB"

I'm at 6.0 GB unpacked and 5.1 GB packed. That might be part of the problem you're having with the File Not Found error. I'd try downloading from the HIB site again and see if anything changes.

Very strange, I've downloaded it via bittorrent and on the download page it's also listed as 4,8GB

Odd. The checksums match on mine and I've downloaded both normally and from the torrent, so it should be around my sizes. I'd try unpacking yours again from the archive and see if it gets any bigger. In the grand scheme, .3 GB isn't that big from the website and the actual download... so I wouldn't worry too much about what the bundle is saying about size.

Just checked md5sum and it's correct. I also unpacked it again with the console commands and now the size "makes sense", ~6GB

Still getting an error on start though:

./DungeonDefenders Dungeon Defenders: Installed in '/home/micha/qBT_dir/DungeonDefenders'. XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0" after 16 requests (16 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

Since it seems that there are no Trendy representatives on the steamcommunity forum I've posted the issue on the steam forums: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3032336

Well this is an odd fix: apparently the launcher is trying to find gnome-screensaver-command
Of all the commands to try and find haha.
Anyways, I would assume that installing gnome-screensaver-command (I don't think that's a package in gnome though...) would work, but if you don't want all of the dependencies (or gnome-screensaver-command) you can just run:
ln -s /bin/true /usr/bin/gnome-screensaver-command

For me, now it just displays a splash screen and then dies. At least it isn't crashing the desktop when trying to run now... probably going to try and install gnome-screensaver and then try again.

EDIT: Can be fixed by installing gnome-screensaver, which gives gnome-screensaver-command, as well.

I've got the game running in Linux with Optimus and Primus. Sent a pull request, but for the impatient, here is the pull request link:
