Problem with Dota2 invite

I recently had a friend who says he gave me an invite for Dota 2 on Steam. Problem is, I never received any such invite from him (unless you count that friend request an invite). I downloaded the client but its stuck in Spectator Mode only and my friend says that it shows me as playing the game & he can't invite me again.

Am I the only one with this problem or did someone else get the same issue? And what should I do to redeem my pass to the game? Please help! I really wanna play this game.

Check your inventory. Everyone was given a spectator client so that's nothing unusual, but if he gave you a giftable copy you'd likely need to look in your steam inventory and activate it to unlock the play features.

For a key or similar other source of invite you might need to check your email (also any spam folder(s) you have as the invite sometimes gets caught in the filter)

we got the same problem he received an e-mail that he get a gift (dota 2) but he cant see the game in his inventory.

In my case it didn't go to my inventory, but directly to my game library along with 'Dota 2 Test' to be installed. If 'Dota 2 Test' didn't come along, then it's probably the Spectator Client.

I think this is quite accurate, I sent my friend an invite , afte dota 2 test had came up, he could play.

i have here problem too my friend send it to me but i dont have it :( and i dont know how to get it cause i have SPEC too and TEST too but i dont see any full game :(

Restart steam, let it update. and if that doesnt fix it, check email, if nothing, then you didnt get invited.

My friend gets "This gift is already redeemed try again later" Even though the item is still in his inventory he cannot activate.

I gave my friend my dota invite... But he indstalled the 4.2 gb could se DOTA in his Games... but when he opended it was the Spectator client how to fix that?

I also have the exact same problem ... a friend of mine gave me the gift and now it just sits in my inventory but when i try to activate it says it may already been redeemed which is not possible

I gave him another gift and same thing... he has 2 dota 2 invitations and nothing.
