Blank screen on start-up (help me please)
Just got DotA 2 yesterday, installed it, and it won't work for me. I've tried changing my screen resolution, I updated all drivers, I verified the file integrity, I even tried the -nod3d thing in the launch line. Nothing works. My graphics card is a GT 610, so it's not an outdated GPU. I currently have my computer hooked up to my TV, and every other game I have works just fine. I can't figure out what to do, someone please help me.

nVidia GeForce GT 610 2GB

I also have the same problem. I installed DoTA yesterday and it worked fine. I played one game, stopped, and tried launching again today to no avail. I just get a black screen ad infinitum. I'm on a much worse computer than yours, so it mustn't be hardware-related.

Windows 7
Core i5-2520M 2.0GHz
4GB RAM
nVidia NVS 4200M

Like I said, every other game I have I can play just fine, except for this one. I start it up, and it's a blank screen. I can hear the music, I know it's "working", I just can't see ANYTHING except for my sad face reflecting in the screen.

I think I found a fix. It seemed to work for me. Only took me 6 hours of searching, and I hope this works for everyone else.

Remember to replace the numbers in the command line with YOUR resolution.

That also worked for me. I had the same problems as described by you (no visuals but hear the sounds so I know it was running). By the way, it wasn't originally a problem. On the initial linux release, it worked. But broke on the update

Thanks OP.

Glad it worked for you too. I haven't had any issues with it since my last post, works every single time.

is it new ? I mean did you use to have it and the game would run up after it and now it doesnt work anymore? if yes try to clean up the cache ... if there is no way to do so , a reinstallation would be a good idea

Hey Swag Yolo!! Thank you very much for this solution. This has been irking me so much!!

I went to the link your provided, and copy pasted this :)

-windowed -w 1920 -h 1080 -noborder -novid

Replace the 1920 and 1080 with your actual resolutions. mine are 1600 900. It was so quick, and after I'd gone through all of my drivers and everything I could think of >< sigh lol!

Thanks again.

This worked for me so please try it. Go to Steam library and right click on DOTA 2. Then, go to properties and click launch options. Type in -novid, and you'll be fine. To some people there will be a white screen after the DOTA 2 logo, but if you just wait it will start. :D

i had that same issue, my computer (for whatever reason) couldnt load the guy w/ the "valve" in the back of his head.

Solution? - Left click on the screen (even if you can't see your cursor) and hit escape. This SHOULD jump you right into the Dota2 load screen (black with the red square Dota2 symbol in the middle)

Hope this helped!
