Individual Mentality
So, Im pretty new to Dota 2 but I have played a few other mobas so I came in with a pretty good understanding of things. I did the tutorial, bot matches and eventually bots vs players before I jumped into some real games. Im just being overly cautious because I wanted to contribute as much to my teams as I can once I played the real deal. One thing I did notice pretty early on, though, is a certain mentality. Its the mentality that if you arent a high level, its entirely your fault and reflects on you as a player. Although I believe this to be true to a degree, I believe that your level and overall farm varies depending on your team and the enemy team. For example, I was playing a game as sniper and I was in mid. I got a good start level and money wise and even got a good gank in river as an ally was being chased but eventually the enemy team just kept pushing mid with 3-4 people. This happened for about 5 minutes the first time despite asking my team several times to help me out, and then again several times through the game. They kept to their lanes and didnt help me, which took away my ability to get any farm whatsoever and made me fall behind in levels. THEN when Im behind in levels I am called names because I "suck at Dota" and basically got called out every chance they could get. I eventually was able to level myself up but I was still a few levels behind. Despite having the least deaths, most assists, and a few kills, I still was called out purely because of my level. I love Dota 2 so far, but I think that the players need to think of it as more of a team game and less of an individual one. If someones lane is unfarmable due to a constant enemy push, help them out! That team-mate being under level affects everyone else in the game because every hero in Dota is unique and brings their own advantages to a fight. Love the game so far, but just thought Id make a post about my time playing. Been 99% positive so far though! (:

1) You are sniper. You have incredible range. Telling me that you cannot get any farm is a little far fetched.
2) Spam shrapnel. Sure, you can't 1v4, but it does help.
3) If their team is pushing mid for 5 minutes it means that for 5 minutes straight your allies are getting farm - their team is not.
4) Let me say again - YOU ARE SNIPER - you have shrapnel, and the highest right-click range of any hero. You can last hit creeps just fine.

Just a question - what heros did the enemy have?

Eh, certain heroes can take out Sniper easily. Anyone with any sort of jump or teleport wrecks him. My advice would be to stay near the tower. You'll get farm as long as you're within a certain distance of the enemy creeps/heroes when they die. Another problem is that you're new. Players will be able to make better judgement calls as you move up in tiers.

That actually should have ended up with the enemy team underleveled as they were splitting one lanes xp between 4 people while you just needed to stay within xp range to get a full lanes xp to yourself.

+ u have 5 min to destroy 2 side tower, so actually its a good exchange, let mid t1 fall, and get bot and top t1 isntead, with dual lane farm, while they stuck at mid 4-5 manning and not getting any farm or xp... or u can basically just pressure the towers to force them to tp there to def, instead of pushing your towers so yeah, if u stay 1v4, dont try to def, go elsewere in my opinion if your team is not ready to take a teamfight... if u stay, u r kind of bad...

We ended up winning the game. I wasnt stating that the enemies move outplayed us, I was referring more to the mentality of my teammates when I was slightly under level.

That was exactly the issue unfortunetely :/ They blinked or stealthed at me any chance they got.

They had Axe w/ blink, Viper w/ shadowblade, and a Lich when they pushed mid. Viper and Axe were the big issues for me as they both would rush me any chance they got. Keep in mind Im a new player as well. My whole point of making this was to talk about the negative mentalities, not my individual play. There are most definately things I could have done different, but Im still learning.

These are all things I will consider in the future. Like I said, Im a brand new player. When I was saying "defend mid" to my teammates, one guy saying exactly what you just said would have been helpful. No one said anything in my game unless it was calling out someone else for seemingly no reason. Thats the reason I made this post.
the most important thing as a new player
always have a tp scroll, no matter what, just have one with u... (it will save your ass, than u won 2-300 gold with being caucios), u can help to other lanes qick (u get 2-300 gold, otherwise u wouldnt) u can defend, or simply u can famr faster and leave in time... best advice, and try to say it also to your teammates because this matters a lot... (just watch a few pro games, always everyone has one with him)

I try keep one handy in my inventory but I will be sure to make it a priority from now on!

When you are brand new to the game your teammates most likely are so as well. That means they probably don't know yet how to play better.

However, I understand why you are complaining and agree with you. To me it seems that a lot of people don't understand that Dota is a team game. You can see this often when you have a look at the heroes in one team. People confuse kills with skill. They think the one with the most kills is the best player. What they don't see is that they often could not have made those kills without help from their teammates.

It seems to have become kind of a mantra but the best way to avoid a lot of trouble in this game is to play it with friends. Either friends from real life or online friends. As long as you get along with them and can communicate with them without instant fights it should work.

Terrorblade is a cool hero and juggernaut is great for new players

I agree on Jugg, he is a nice and easy hero, but except for the cool part, terrorblade is anything but easy for new people, he needs a lot of farm, some illusion micro and hp and mana namagement, he may start with an armor to match his mouth, but his hp doesn't. Sunder is and ok ultimate, but it costs almost half your mana and since his other abilities are also hefty on his mana, even if spammable, he can be easily found without mana to sunder someone...

i wouldn't recommend terrorblade for new players, he's squishy and he's reliant on ult for survivabilty which has abysmal range and long cast time

Really? I tried him once and scored first blood by chasing a dragonknight and using my q twice. I'm pretty new
