Would I like this gane if I don't like shovels?

The trailers looked really cool and I thought about buying it if the reviews will be fine, but it seems like lots of the reviews are about how awsome the shovels are.
Well I don't like shovels, you can even say that I hate them. (don't bother yourself why.)
Is there a way to turn them off completely, or at least finish the main quest without using them?

What do you mean by that? I saw some auto rifles in the trailers, how are they kind of shovels? (or did you refered only to the melee weapons?)

basically, every weapon (even the guns) are just a kind of shovel. You can use them to dig and they fire little shovels (not bullets) when you shoot them.

I just watched some one running around throwing shovels and baseball bats at people the whole time on ps4 to the point where I started calling him Doug Batman I am still in 2 minds about this game after seeing him floor people halfway accross the map with a bat.
