I honestly don't remember why I installed that, I'm sure there was a program that I thought I would use or used to use in which I needed it, but I really probably don't need it. I could uninstall it, but idk if that would help the game at all, as the debug layer should be disabled. But, maybe it's not. Also can't think of why FAR seemed to crash the game a few times as mentioned before, and why the game has reverted to crashing just before finishing loading in the save.
After renaming the dinput8.dll file, the game does not crash, it runs fine but obviously without FAR.
Some interesting new information.
After uninstalling dxcpl, instead of launching in 1920x1080, the game launched in 1366x768 or so, and without changing the resulution I loaded the save, and the game loaded fine and I could play, although in the wrong resolution. I go to change the game to 1920x1080, and after I do so the game crashed. After that first time running it, the game launches in 1920x1080, and if I try to load my save as usual it crashes at the end of the load screen. But, I then changed the resolution back to 1366x768 and although it does not look right, the game properly loads the save and I can play the game, and FAR works fine. Therefore, it seems that there must be some problem with FAR and displaying the game in 1920x1080.
Uninstall FAR if you have it, then go to the game files and select properties in the .exe --> Compatibility --> Run Compatibility Troubleshooter and then run the program (You could try to run it as admin too.) If it works, change the compatibility to whatever it was recommended to you, apply it and accept it. Then you can re-install FAR without any problems. I hope this helped
Just search for it from your start button and enter it in in search programs and files, that will show it
I went to the properties, but there was no run compatability troubleshooter, so I set the compatability to windows 7. This was after uninstalling FAR, and afterwards the SKIM64 autoinstaller still fails to work :P
will see if manually installing it and running it with this will change anything
finally
I don't know how long it will last or if I'm hallucinating, but the game finally appears to be working!
After doing as you said I was honestly quite doubtful that anything would happen, but now I can load into my save with FAR enabled, and interact with it and everything, change the resolution, go fullscreen and windowed, etc and it all works!
I don't know if what you said to do is what allowed this to work but I can only assume since it's finally running again. The autoinstaller still doesn't work, but I couldn't care less as long as the game works.
Thanks so much for the help, it's been about a week since this hasn't worked now I believe.
Thanks!!!
!!!!
Hey if you are still having problems Lup, refer to what Kirosama said and change the compatability on the exe file after uninstalling FAR, it seems to have worked for me. I'm not sure if this will last, but currently it seems to run fine.
Hopefully you can get yours fixed as well!
I cannot express how thankful I am for the help, there is absolutely no way in any possible reality or universe in which I would have been able to fix this without all the help I recieved from you guys.
I really appreciate that you guys helped me through this, and to the extent that you did, as you easily could have seen this discussion on steam and ignored it. But clearly, you all gave your time to help another out. Really appreciate that.
Although the game is working now, I'm paranoid that it will suddenly stop working again, but if that does happen at least I know there is a very helpful community to solve the problem.
I can finally play this game again!
Thank you so much!
!!!!!
Surprisingly, this actually worked for me too!
I don't know what sort of problem Benito and I experienced, but this workaround helped.
And thanks to Aemony and Kaldaien for actually devoting their time to trying to figure out our problem!
