Natural Selection 2 is a tactile RTS-FPS Hybrid mix, where commanders from two factions can battle it out while people play in real time below them.
Natural Selection 2 acts sort of like a traditional RTS with a very unconventional twist, however, unconventional doesn't mean bad. This game makes great use of it, without good teammates or a good commander, you will easily fall to defeat.
As for the factions, a lot can be said here. The aliens feel fluid, fast and sometimes, flimsy. Like a fast wet noodle, or a viciously quick foam sword. However, in the hands of a more experienced player, it can be extremely fun and feel as though you actually have the evolutionary advantage to destroy all who threaten the hive cluster. It feels almost like playing Zerg in Starcraft II or Starcraft: Brood War, however, the creep isn't purple, and there's less farting and fapping noises.
As for the marines, it's exactly what you'd expect. The art style for marines seems to lean towards very technologically advanced and extremely bright and metallic. The gameplay is very demanding for Marines. You will be RIPPED to SHREDS if you cannot aim. You must be able to aim at all times, and you need to know how to manuever and aim as if it was the back of your hand. Professional players probably know the ins and outs of the marine race.
For the RTS side, I'm sure there is a very deep and fast paced side to it's mechanics that gives it the feeling of fun, but I have only played commander three times, and won three times in a row. However, that was back when there were more players for the game. Unfortunatley there are very less players.
And that should be why I say yes, buy this game..
There are very few players in this game. Just looking at the servers and the population of them shows you how many people who have the game, actually play the game.
