So the Steam client is giving you the prompt that pops up saying something to the effect of "There's already an instance of (game) running" when you attempt to launch the game now? That's probably going to prevent you from being able to delete local content from within the client.
It would be helpful to see what happens if you were to go into your Steam game directory and try running the Gigachess executable directly. This is probably telling you what you already know, but you'll likely have to navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Gigachess. You should see a file in there called gigachess_v0.80_steam.exe. If you could try running that, let us know what happens!
Oh jeez, you're totally right. Looks like the 25-hit achievements are currently trying to unlock the 100-hit achievements, effectively doing nothing. We'll get it all sorted with an update that'll be rolling out later today. Thanks a bunch for sharing that, ZeroOne, and congrats on your huge Expert score!
EDIT: doesn't happen all the time though
Ahh, gotcha. It's got to be old save data that's snuck into the Steam installation. Just a heads up, what that might mean is the next update we push out will need to wipe your save file to make sure there's nothing left over from our pre-release debugging, so that awe inspiring 1-move clear will sadly be no more. Thanks for the report!
Steam Cloud support is intended to be there, but I strongly suspect the save files aren't syncing properly / at all. Something I'll be looking into for sure. Thanks for investigating!
Arg, yeah, that's a problem I've observed. Funny things have a tendency to happen when the game loses focus. While it'll totally kill whatever groove you're in, starting a new game from the top menu will restore the cursor. Cheers for the report!
Very sorry to hear that! Best of luck getting things fixed up. If it ends up looking like it's the game and not Steam, be sure to give an update on your situation and we'll try to help.
Exact same issue happened to me, and I must tell you it is the 3rd game in the past couple of weeks to show this exact same issue (Steam freezing on game launch, nothing showing in the Task manager, only solved after a clean reboot) and it is not limited to me, so this ain't a local computer problem - I am betting on Valve ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up somewhere and being as transparent about it as Apple would be until it hits some major publisher's product ;)
Edit : blamed the wrong product : it appears with its last major iteration, Avast turned into a useless pile of rubbish - Gman, maybe you are using it as well? In any case, disabling it solved the startup issue.

EDIT: Also, do I need to lose to be featured on the leaderboards? Because I had something like 200 hits and then I hit Esc, exiting the game, so now it says I'm not featured on Steam's Global Leaderboards, which do have the correct order, as shown here.
In a window, even maximized, the bottom of it is inaccessible and cut by the task bar.
I can get around this by having the game resize it to a tiny window (which I cant resize manually, I guess some aspect ratio spell is at work there).
Hovering the cursor to the top of the window makes a windows menu bar appear and disappear, which is quite annoying.
Finally, hitting the Esc key just quits the game without any prompt.
Thanks for pointing that out, the in-game leaderboards are definitely scrambling the order of players! Now that there are enough scores on the Novice board to properly test with, I'll get that displaying properly soon. Also, regarding leaderboard submissions, yeah, they're presently only sent in when an Endless game ends in defeat. If the player exits the game before then. it really ought to submit their score. Cheers for your insight!
Hello! You're totally right about there being limits on the resolutions Gigachess runs at. The game is deliberately avoiding the use of anti-aliasing so the presets it switches between do their best to maintain accurate pixels (with the 1280x720 windowed mode displaying the game at a perfect 2X scale).
There's a lot of tinkering I'd like to do with the display options, having a proper borderless fullscreen being high priority. The auto-hiding of the menu bar when your cursor isn't near the top of the window is a step in that direction, but I agree with you that it's probably more annoying than it is discreet, especially how the viewable area gets screwed up when the window maximizes as you've observed. What I may work towards is doing away with the OS drop-down menu entirely and just building a custom menu into the game that hangs out at the top of the playfield, plus try to offer additional windowed resolutions that don't totally distort the graphics.
Regarding the prompt-less exit upon hitting escape, haha, well, I just kinda like the no nonsense simplicity of it. However, some kind of a confirmation really ought to be there. Thanks for your input!
No problem! Coincidentally, I noticed a couple more peculiarities about the in-game leaderboards.
Looking at the screenshot and the leaderboards again I noticed there is no rank 9. Instead, 0 is displayed, and the next rank after that is again correct, 10. The number 9 seems to be missing altogether. Coincidentally, the nick on that spot happens to be you, Drixxel. Maybe an update has messed it up or something since you tested it before release?
Also, when I click arrow down (next page, or next 10 featured nicks on the leaderboards), it briefly shows ranks 11-15 but then skips immediately to show only rank 20 that contains a nick (listing zero hits though). Ranks 16-19 seem to be empty.
So, I detect that rank is correct but the hit count is not.
