  • Many more trainable skill techniques

  • Thaumaturgy

  • Ranged combat

  • Co-op and PvP multiplayer (LAN or low ping only)

  • Dialogue and other friendly NPC interaction

That's it off the top of my head. There's numerous things that are not mentioned, either because I couldn't think of them or because they represent spoilers or would make little sense without more context.

ETA: ASAP

Also 9 more levels in the story mode, more arenas (outdoor one), more arena items/NPCs/areas. A bunch of awesome stuff in general.

They've taken quite a long time on this update. It's gotta be thaumaturgy, right?
IIRC one of the thaumaturgy branches (mind) is gonna be in the next big story update.

Im hoping the magic system isnt too overpowered, I really love the combat physics, it's always surprising me.

Its gonna be totally overpowered, Exanima's not going to be one of those games were being able to bend the laws of nature is in the same ballpark of power as weilding a sword :P

I think we early access exaima players are blessed in the sense that we will be excellent melee fighters compared to people who get to be spoiled by magic from the start :P

I don't think you will start with Thaumaturgy in this game, but maybe I just read something wrong.

Sui though sounds like you will be starting with Thaumaturgy.
You won't start with any powers, you will eventually gain it (not sure about Exanima but in SG you will have to kill other thaumaturges in order to steal their powers or something.)

Good to know.

Whether you start with some powers in Exanima depends on which character you pick. Specifically unknown will have access to (initially weak) powers, and possibly the proctor. The other characters will also become locked until certain events in the story unfold in any playthrough.

The main reason the next update is taking a while is because we're doing a major overhaul to environment composition features, which will allow for a lot more varied and interesting visual content.

Ooo I like the sound of that.

You wouldn't be able to give a rough eta on the update would you?

Whatever ETA given is likely to be very rough indeed (read: not very accurate). Almost every single time an ETA has been given in the past something comes up that requires additional work which causes the ETA to be way off. A great example is the last update that added ogres and dual wielding. Madoc thought it'd be a relatively easy thing to add both yet after attempting to do so it required redoing the entire animation/movement systems (a massive amount of work) in order to get both to function properly. And then the armor for the ogres caused all sorts of problems which also required way more time than expected.

It's just part of developing everything from scratch and attempting to do new things which haven't been done before; things rarely go smoothly and usually require lots of changes, tweaks, and several iterations before finally working as intended. And often times these changes can't be predicted since mechanics work up until the point they don't. Madoc wasn't planning on redoing the entire movement system for the last patch yet it ended up being necessary after attempting to add new mechanics which wouldn't function properly with the previous system (which was a good thing in the end since it was by far the largest improvement to the animations/movements to date but it did require significantly more time than originally estimated).

Some of things BM have been working on recently: updating the terrain system for both indoor and outdoor environments (natural terrain will be in the upcoming levels in Exanima), adding clothing physics and new types of wearable items (long skirts, cloaks, etc.), adding an in-game tutorial/help system, adding an alchemy system, thaumaturgy, dialogue mechanics, the outdoor arena and of course the upcoming story content/levels. (Note: not all of these things will be included in the next update.)
