Does destroying transports do anything to the economy?

Near one of my squares is a war sector, but it is very lightly defended and enemy traders use the western half of the square to go from the west gate to the north gate. My guys enter from the east gate. If I destroy enough transports, will that have an effect on the enemy economy or is it so big that killing them would have no effect and mostly be used to scavenge stuff for yourself and to sell?

Destroying transports does actually have an impact on the local economy. Although, the game will spawn empty transports to go pick up whatever is at the station but the economy can stall out if you keep it up, mostly. A faction that you're not trying to fight can go through and do the trade run but I don't know how likely this is.

Well the game has a set number od Ships, called Jobs, that buy and sell stuff. Its balanced in a way that there are enough such ships for the economy to run, but without player intervention things stall and may only recover over very long periods of time.

NPC (Jobs) ships spawn in somewhat randomised fashion and then may take forever to arrive at their destination. Also once they have set a course it wont change untill they are actually there.

The size of the economy is so big though that I dont think you can cripple the economy for long periods of time, unless you actively keep destryiong ships over a large range of systems.

Also the economy has not a market pricing like a real world economy, which would price the goods based on overall demand and supply, whereas in X games, stations will price their goods based on their own stocks. So even if there was just one SPP it would sell Ecells at min price if the storage got filled up.
