GUI scaling for high dpi screens

For everyone who needs to scale their GUI here's a little trick.

1. Goto C:\Users\YourUsername\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris and open the settings.txt

For Linux users the file is located in
/home/<yourloginname>/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris

2. Now change the line "gui_scale" to anything you want. Got it at 1.500000 right now on a 2560x1440 resolution.


There are some issuses coming with it but it's still playable:

- A lot of graphics on the empire creation screens are not in the correct location (planets for planet preferences, ships for ship type prefefence etc.)

- The context menu shifts to the far right from where you click.

- A small number of tool tips are off screen

I created some mods that will fix the main menu and context menu. They are not nearly perfect but it's at least better playable for now.

There is also a problem with the right click menu appearing far to the right of where you click on the screen. Sometimes the right click menu will appear off the edge of the screen.

The font size is now good, a couple of side effects I observed:

Running at 2k 16:9 w/ 1.4 GUI scaling.

Hopefully Paradox can work out a fix for this and put it in all of their games.

Paradox is not gonna fix this as they didn't fix it on any other game.

Also they said on the official forums that they made the fonts and UI bigger for stellaris but they will not support official scaling nor they will add it to the engine in the future.

So, if something is broken with this, be aware that broken will be in 2 years and that they are not gonna fix the UI scale problem it for stellaris or HoI 4.

Rather short-sighted of the developer. I know 21:9 is not the norm, but more and more people are running at high res. I am at 3440x1440 and have a hard time playing some older titles, like Europa Universalis. I was really hoping they would have native support for this resolution as most new titles do.

And here I was about to go on a rant yet again. :) Thanks a lot! And I see why it wasn't included in options, probably decided to leave background fix for later. EDIT: ah, and context menu shift. Still much better than having to sit really close or set half the native resolution :)
