I'm tired of the current beat the dead horse conversation about everything but how to actually play and enjoy the game. This is the start of my survival guide for the new people and the people that will buy the when it gets re-released on Steam.

Making a Toon
This is the first part were many people make their first mistake on creating their toons. Pick the first guy, now put the Camo Shirt and brown pants. DONT PICK THE RED FLANEL, your get picked out real quick and shot. So make sure you try to stay more towards the camo looking stuff. Nothing Worse then sticking out like a sore thumb to bandits and loot hungry fiends.

Marketplace
If you just made a toon, YOU DONT NEED ANYTHING FROM THE MARKETPLACE. You can find something rather quickly, either it be death or a good item. Death will most likly find you first. So make sure any purcheses in the marketplace STAY IN YOUR GI TILL YOU ARE GEARED OUT!!!

Part 1.1
Fresh Spawning

Its cold, crickets, strange noises in the background, seemingly popping sounds from the distance This is where is begins, all you have is a flashlight, granola bar, and some minor meds. That flashlight will get you killed, so turn it off (backspace) you will need to find a different melee weapon if you want to avoid bringing attention to yourself.

But even more important is knowing where you are at, if you are near the middle of the map, it's highly advised you move towards the edge of the map (except near Frosty Pines, that place is hot!) Suggested places to move towards is the Springer Ridge Trailer Park up NorthEast, there are no zomibes just some food and melee weapons, good for new comers.

If you start at Frosty Pines in the north point, draw a line to Goblin Peak Safe Zone in the east, then draw another line towards the Blue Ridge Settlement and back to Frosty Pines. It makes a triangle, treat it like the Bermuda Triangle as this will result in death. Its a hot zone for geared out players, many of them will have ESP and/or be in large groups of 5+.

Your chances are slim for surviving more then a hour, move to the more desolate areas and avoid roads, only use them when you are running from one forest to the next.

Lets Move!

Say you spawn in FallsDale, which isnt so bad its a fairly small area that can give some good loot. But your not ready yet. move west to the Construction Yard (there are ZERO Zombies there) and loot that area, you will find food and water, and if you find a bat or hammer your in business!!!

Move slow, walk the majority of distances, check your flank every 20 steps. TREES ARE YOUR ONLY FRIENDS!!!! This is true, bushes may not render from certain distances so to other people they may or may not be there. Trees, esp low hanging trees are the ones you want to become familiar with, make routes based on those trees. I have had plenty of times that they saved me, they will take bullets for you, they can be used to ambush. You can use them just to avoid other poeple as i have had people walk right by the tree i rotated around.

If you do find a new melee weapon, drop that flashlight and use only that new melee weapon.

I will add more to this Section as People let me know where their New Characters Spawn at, since its been a long time since i remember when my toons first spawned at. So new people just give me a heads up on where you spawn and i will add a safe route for you to run and get started.

Zombies, and More Zombies!!!

They are going to be your first challenge to getting new weapons and better more rare loot drops. This may seem straight forward but things get out of hand real quick when your getting too comfortable. You should never take zombies for granted, they can do some strange things.

Lag plays a role in this also, i have seen it happen to friends and all it takes is a few hits for you to be in big trouble. It even happens to someone like me ever so ofton, Be careful and listen to your surroundings as other zombies may spawn around you.

Zombie AI can be a little funky, fences can really mess with that AI. Jumping over and waiting for them to come to you then jumping back over that fence will confuse the heck out of them so make sure you know what fences are closes to you.

Cars are not really good spots to be anymore, even some trucks are not reliable as much as they used to be. Open and Closed trash bins work pretty well and are more of a barrier, esp when things get out of hand and you need a quick way of getting off the current server.

AIM for the very top of the head, in Third Person View you can put the crosshair right at their hairline and smash right there is most effective, nething else can get messy real quick. For a new comer, 2 zombies at the very most is what you should be able to handle. But even I sometimes find myself having to whip out my gun and take them out cause well, sh!t happens.

Boxes and other things that you can jump on can really help but more try to use these to postpone zombies instead of trying to be on top of them to kill the zombies as it can leave you open to getting spotted/shot by other players.

Friendly?

Lets get the straight, zombies are more of your friends then anyone your meet in this game (unless they are part of your clan and you played other games with them or they are real life friends). Alliances are weak in this game, you can do it if you have the gun and they do not, but trust me, as soon as they find a gun they will try to take your stuff as i have seen this happen to many 2 man groups i have stalked.

It's just to easy to turn on your friends and take their stuff, so i dont think you should team up so soon until you dont care or just really want to team up and take the chance. It sometimes works out but most of the time things wont go the way you would have liked them to.

When you see another player, take note of what they are carrying. Even if they aren't carrying a gun they may be hiding it as i do a lot to make me look like a fresh spawn. This is a very common deceiving tactic that we have taken up to catch people off guard.

NEVER ASK "FRIENDLY?" WHILE THEY ARE STANDING INFRONT OF YOU OR ANYWAY THAT WOULD PUT YOU IN HARM. If you spot each other, run for cover, hide, then maybe ask friendly. If no response, they are hostile, if yes, they are hostile, if no, they are hostile. If you have a gun and they run, then maybe they are friendly but i wouldn't put my life on it.

I dont want politics, dev talk, or any of that other stuff. Im gonna bump till it stays and i can help others that want to game and not flame.

2. press m for map find direction of nearest town.
3. go to town
4. sneak around zombies while lookin in buildings, and in/around cars.
5. eat food if hungry. drink if thirsty.
6. if you have a melee weapon, kill zombies one at a time.
7. if too many zombies after you- hop on a box, dumpster, or car.
8. kill zombies from above with impunity.
9. continue looting until yoi find gun.
10. kill players so you dont have to go in towns any more.

Keep your eyes open. move slow and low in cover, move fast in the open.

11. Die. Repeat.

It is inevitable. May be betrayal. May be a bug. May be a hacker.

Ive had it happen too often because the game kicks me in the middle of a town.
I cant log back in ever again or else ill die to zombies.

tbh a game of this nature should seriously take an entire wiki to explain. The fact that it can be explained in 11 easy steps is just awful and is ruining the potential of this genre.

1. Shoot anything that moves.

My posts are meant to be informative. I know for one I dobt read long winded walkthroughs because the majority of the information in them is fluff.
Many people like short simple to do lists. my list provided information on what to do in a succinct manner.
I respond to your post because you alluded that it is possible to never die. which is a lie.
the only way to ensure you never die is to not log in.

Why would you tell new players that is a possibility? you are inevitably setting the up for let down.

either get a friend to sweep the area, or do what i did, move another toon close to that area. Once you do that, log into that toon, if he dies all your stuff will drop, then login with other toon and try your best to get the stuff you dropped, hope that helps.

worked a few times for me so far

no i do have a 100% way of not dying this game, its not entertaining but i know that it works since i had one toon camp this spot for nearly 3 weeks without leaving. never took damage, never saw anyone else because of how hidden it is. And it spawns some loot for you to survive.

And i said "to a degree" with you since you did put some positive info. but there are people that do like to read (surprise! :D) so we shouldn't argue amgonst each other over trivial things. you can stay and say what you like but keep it positive is the only thing i ask :) thanks

If you are in the game, you can die. Period. I dont think anyone other than you would think contrary to that. Dieing is part of video games like this. It will happen eventually.

where im at, no zombies spawn, no players ever go because they dont know it even exist to much of the population and its doesn't really give great loot spawn but its usually food and water, and sometimes a backpack will drop and so far i have gotten 3 gun drops there, good guns too Uzi, Akm.

And something else i cant remember it was a while back but if you are super safe. you can stay alive for very long periods of time. just depends on how hardcore you are. Of course i moved other toons around and stuff but if your very cautious you can survive with good routes

You obviously don't watch any of the hacking streams, there are an abundance of them.

Step one join server, die to hacker.
Step two look for a different server, die from falling bug on side of a tiny hill.
Step three get killed by a hacker.
Step four can't play that day due to the game being ddosed by angry customers that got banned by mistake.
Step five get back into game, die to a hacker.
Step six get banned for "hacking" in the crossfire of someone else hacking because of how unfair this game is.
Step 7 by the game again falling right into their trap - repeat first 6 steps for fail.
