Is the DayZ community really unfriendly? How to improve your chances...
As it turns out yes KOS happens, but does it really happen on such a scale as people believe? Or does it depend on hotspot locations? Because of Gear? Who are we, when it comes to survival? I found this video to be very interesting.

It seems to be that there is a balance, and some factors will statistically improve your chances on friendly encounters.

1. No Gear - No threat:
Now this isn't science, as in the world U have good people and people who are less inclined to be.
But when U dont have any visible gear that imposes a threat, people by nature will respond less agressive (read defensive) Because basically they arent so scared of you. (Even tho one good punch can seal a deal)

2. More Loot, More Action:
Where U go will determine how you go. At locations as military bases and airfield, big cities. ( Elektro - Berezino - etc) U will have more chance on having agressive encounters.
We know why we are there, the good gear. Even tho U might not have any plans to use it upon fellow human, things are just a trigger-step away.

3. I need you, You need me:
When u encounter fresh spawns u will have up to a high 70 percent chance they will be friendly. Same with low level geared players ( meaning just melee weapons).
High Level Gear players who play in groups statistically respond most aggressive.
Even though U could argue they have less to fear.
(High level Gear means high end arms and military gear)

... and there are other factors that will determine whether or not U have a friendly encounter.
outside of the obvious, such as chosing a friendly based server.

Of course your own input affects things, U are dealing with people. U don't have to give your trust, but at least some respect, to be given it in return.

Community ingame tests, much like this series (see video above) done by players have proven that not all players shoot on sight. As a matter of fact, one could argue this doesnt happen in a general rule of thumb. Depending on such factors as described above.

In some variables the chances of you being shot are greater, because of location, numbers, gear, server, and so on. And in other occasions U will actually have more chance on a friendly then un-friendly encounter.
I was happy to conclude not everyone in the world would kill you for an appel. That's for sure.

To be honest, U can't have the 'good' without the 'bad'. Let heroes be heroes and bandits be bandits. When it comes down to it, we are not a community of jerks. Some of them are just really loud, and that shows.

Hope this shed some light on the fact that we have a good side on this community too.
People who just read the reviews shouldn't be afraid that they will be waking up naked and falling dead every single day, sure it happens. But take it, learn and try again.

Don't ask for less challenge, only more skills.

Conclusion:
Numbers and stats show that this is not what the game is about. KOS happens, but it's not the core mechanic to the community's apocalyps surivival. And it seems a lot of people agree.

So have a great DayZ!
See U inworld!
