Kerbal Space Program

Kerbal losing players?
Anyone feel that Kerbal is losing players because the main focus of the game is on the career now and that is just not very interesting? I used to play Kerbal a lot in the sandbox mode but as soon as the career mode started I switched to that and shortly stopped playing. I feel that, after playing the latest incarnation, the career mode actually stinks. It ruins all the fun.

The main fun in Kerbal has always been the sandbox mode - designing massive ships and taking them to far destinations and getting back again, or rescuing stranded crew members. That still is great fun - you are creating your own game and its fun!

But career mode where you are being handicapped and led along a path I feel is just rubbish. Its really dull.

And because the development of the game has been centred on teh career loads of people who no doubt got a buzz out of sandbox mode are seeing very little that is new that they want to see and leaving the game. And yes it is happening - Kerbal is getting low in the Steam charts lower than ever before in fact.

And its hardly surprising - for sandbox mode I have been waiting for resources, clouds, aerodynamic effects, re-entry effects, masive tanks, decent parts for landers/buggies etc etc for years and nothing has materialised. No wonder everyone is getting fed up and leaving.

And no wonder I have played the game properly for well over a year now. I would love to go back as well, if it ever got some deccent sandbox development. But there is no way I am going back to career mode if I do ever start playing again - I just hate it.

I think its well about time the devs started realising why people loved this game and heres a clue - it aint the career lads! Lets see the career finished off quickly, get it out of the way if you must - and lets start seeing some exciting stuff done for sandbox mode please.

Answer to your first sentance, no. I may lose interest for a week or 2 but ALWAYS come back to ksp. 1600 hours.

Yeah but what do you play career or sandbox?

Uh, who prevents you from playing Sandbox? Only your ego.

Yes, I've dumped KSP - don't want to worry about losing my modded save on 1.0.

Yeah but what do you play career or sandbox?

Career ever since it was added of course, before that science mode.

The only reason not to play the Sandbox is to create a self-imposed challenge. That is brought on by either your ego, or the peer pressure and the need to avoid damage to your ego.

Maybe it is just me then but I find the career boring as hell.

Sorry I dont follow you at all. Peer pressure? From who? For what? To what end? You are well off the mark there. To want to play a game that challenges me wihtout grinding is not to do with an ego, its to do with the need for intesting gameplay. The career is not interesting to me at all.

But then I hate canned missions in flight sims and I hate games that are linear and scripted. So thats probably teh main reason I hate it. I think the career maybe provides an alternative way of playing but its certainly not for me.

And precious little of any interest has been developed for the sandbox game lately.

replaying career/sci is pointless. its just the same meta grinding all over again. but its optional, you still can stick to sandbox and do awesome pointless stuff.

the thing pissing me off is the lack of progress and or progress in the wrong direction; i doubt 1.0 will be any good.

countless hours pre steam, 850h steam.

It basicaly IS just you......go look at the KSP forums (the official ones, not steam) the feedback on the devblogs, and all the KSPweekly feedback....anyone with half a brain can see plain as day MOST active players are playing carer or science modes.

Also, plain to see from Squads annual copys sold KSP is gaining players over the past years, not losing them.....

I can assure you the opinions shared in OP are NOT gonna be the opinions of the majority of active KSP playes. Squad has been develpoing their game according to theor own vision and feedback from the MAJORITY of the playerbase.
You happen to not be in that majority.....does not mean Squad are bad devs....just means maybe KSP is not the game for you, or what YOU thought it was gonna be.

Yoiu have just over 200hrs played....
You stated yourself you have only had the game for a year....

YOU ARE NOT AT ALL A REPRESENTATION OF THE AVERAGE KSP PLAYER.

I have had the game three years or so now...purchased first copy before it was even on Steam.....Have 1100+ hours on Steam and about 5times that total.....I still play KSP at least few hours a week...usually alot more.
Nope its NOT JUST HIM... I've lost interest since development hasn't A) Supported a decent memory caching system B) Not upgrading to Unity 5 and/or supporting 64bit.

KSP is just a shell of a game without good mods. The DEVS need to address these issues, or I won't come back... and I've spent 1k hrs on this game.

I'm still wondering where you are reading that they are NOT going to make this move to a later version of Unity?
BlackWater Apr 13, 2015 @ 1:43pm
I don't get why all the upsetedness. If you don't like the career then just play the sandbox option instead. Kudos to thses guys for giving us 3 options. Far as it being repetive, have you explored every square inch of every planet? How about the various extra planet mods? Outer planets along with Outer Planets + give you quite a few more celestial bodies to go visit.......HODOR!

LMAO...
Lost intrest in a game SOLD ONLY AS 32bit SOFTWARE because they wont support x64....way to research your purchases....

And my point still stand....the MAJORITY (that measn most of) of active KSP players are playing career and/or science modes. THIS IS A FACT, not opinion.
The MAJORITY of people that purchased KSP are happy with their purchase, THIS IS FACT, not an opinion.
KSP and Squad have grown in sale, over the past 3 years, THIS IS FACT, not opinion.

The ENTIRE original post is opinion, and one not shared by a MAJORITY of the KSP player base.
Spooky Lemon Apr 13, 2015 @ 1:47pm
ye mods are great...but you have to stick to 32bit...because reasons.
since last surprise update i just wont bother rebuilding my game & mod install.

and for what ? waiting till 1.0 will be released without any proper content but with extra bugs & more of my fav mods dead ?
